We had the set menu here and it’s pissibly the worst food I’ve ever tasted in my life The soup de poisson was thin and greasy and had no flavour at all It was accompanied with two small toasted slices of baguette The main course...was supposed to be fish with risotto It was a thin slither if something covered in a thick cold sauce and served with a thick cold white solidge if something that tasted of nothing The dessert was a lemon pie that had no lemon in it This place looked busy so we assumed the food must be good Don’t be fooled it’s really chez doom and gloom
We had dinner here with our tour group on the last night of our 2 week tour. The restaurant was full. We had ordered from a very limited number of choices a couple of days previously. Our starter was roast veges, which turned out to...be cold aubergine and capsicum served with lettuce and olives. Our main course was veal casserole served on a very unexciting pasta. Dessert was Corsican cheesecake. The people who had ordered the fruit tartlet just got some fresh fruit salad. The food was very ordinary. Service was slow. We sat down in the restaurant before 8pm and we were the first to leave after 10pm, without waiting for the included coffee. Can't comment on cost as it was included in our tour package. Overall it was a very ordinary experience.
Tourist trap we ordered one fixed price menu the fish soup was cold with accompanying bits having sat around for what looked like a day, the St Pierre fillet was slathered in a ghastly thick sauce and the tart was above room temperature... goodness knows how long that had been hanging around... Mine was not much better I ordered off the A La Carte very disappointing calamari it looked and tasted rather like big fat pieces of rubber. What a rip off. Go next door to Santa Maria a much better bet.
We were staying for four nights in Calvi two nights our dinner was included, but 2 nights were free. Having looked around a bit (my husband dislikes fish seafood) we chose Chez Dume for our first free night I popped in at...lunchtime to book for the evening, although we could have got in without a reservation as long as we 'd turned up before 8, by which time the place was heaving. We both ate off the set Menu Corse , which unlike other set menus (usually 3 choices max) had a pretty wide choice (I think 6 or 7 starters and mains). My husband particularly enjoyed his wild boar stew. We enjoyed our meal so much, we opted out of our second included dinner and came here a second time to choose something else off the set menu!
We ate here one night and enjoyed the food, but there were a coupe of niggles which stopped this from being truly great. First, the chairs. I appreciate this is a personal perspective and I’ll be in the minority here, but I found the chairs...terribly uncomfortable. I do have a congenital lower back deformity which won’t have helped, but nonetheless this was the only place in Calvi where I had this issue. The other thing was that the restaurant was busy....really busy. The staff didn’t walk, they ran, and afterwards we realised that we had responded to this, albeit unconsciously....we were in and out in about 45 minutes! I prefer to be a bit more relaxed on holiday, but I guess it shows how popular the place was! If the seating was more comfortable I would return as the food was very good.
