K so... hear me out. Y'all can think I'm an a-hole but our servers name was Christian. He was very professional and formal and we enjoyed that but it felt like ordering from a robot. So Christian... please take this as constructive criticism and just loosen up a bit, Be yourself, add some humour. Anyways... food was good. I had the beets side and it was DELISH. We got the tango tower. Now I know it says "raw bar" but... View all feedback.
What Buster Stroman doesn't like about Tango Bistro:
One of our favorite places to go with friends has been Tango Bistro. Unfortunately they have changed their menu and no longer offer the small plate menu. Everything we ordered from the new menu was disappointing. (Steak Frites, Gnocchi ratatouille, some of the drinks). I felt most items were overpriced. Dessert was average. We will not be back. We got the tango tower. Now I know it says "raw bar" but I asked if it was cooked and he said it was other than the oysters so for some reason I was expecting warm or hot prawns, lobster etc. It was all cold so I didn't eat any of it. Cold fish ain't mah thang.Boyfriend loved it and wants to come back. I don't. Their interior designer deserves mad props tho, wow, gorgeous design. The cocktails sucked too :(
The appetizers at Tango were incredible and appropriately priced. I never knew devlied eggs could taste so good. I eagerly awaited the main course and so disappointed. The Lobster Gnocchi was HEAVY and rather tasteless. Most of our table ordered side vegetables only to find out later that the sides are meant to be shared. I would return for drinks and appetizers but not for dinner.
Tango Bistro is amazing! We were a little underdressed in jeans and everyone else seemed to be dressed up. (Lots of buisness meetings it seemed). But tbe staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. The food is delicious. Everything comes in appetizer sizes so it's perfect for trying new things. The waitress also told us their menu changes from season to season so we will be back to try the new menu next time we are in Calgary. Highly highly recommend!
I wanted to say that our second visit exceeded our expectations. The pot au feu with the marrow bone was particularly excellent. The goat cheese appetizer was also very good. Shall return.
I haven't been to Tango since they revised their menu. I loved it before so the bar was set high. Tonight's meal EXCEEDED my expectations. The menu has some incredible choices - most of which can be made gluten free. It was hard to decide what to try. My friends shared the Caesar salad to start, and I had oysters. We also shared the poutine, which IS gluten free! The Lobster gnocchi, which can also be made gf, was outstanding! The chocolate pate we shared for dessert was decadent, rich and delish! I can't wait to go back and try some of the other choices on the menu. The service was incredibly attentive, friendly, fun, and helpful. It was a great evening!
