Was Mark Koop at Ruby Queen a mag?
I've ordered takeout from Ruby Queen twice, and both times the staff has been incredibly helpful and friendly. I've sampled about ten different dishes, and they've all been delicious and full of flavor. The portion sizes are also quite generous. Additionally, they were very accommodating with my food allergy, and I haven't had any issues with cross-contamination. View all feedback.
What Rob Doucet dislikes about Ruby Queen:
We were refused service an hour and a half before closing, despite the restaurant still being full of customers. It was quite upsetting, and I couldn't shake the feeling that they may have judged us based on our appearance. Additionally, the restaurant had a strange smell, so maybe it was for the best that we didn't stay. View all feedback.

Our bill totaled about $122 before tip, and the restaurant added a 10% gratuity automatically. This was well-deserved, but I felt inspired to give a little extra. I’d like to express my gratitude to the staff at Ruby Queen for their attentive and passionate preparation and service. I highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely return the next time I’m in Calgary!
This seemingly modest restaurant is truly a hidden gem in the northeast. The owners and staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, frequently checking in to see how our meal was and if we needed anything. The food was outstanding, offering an authentic Chinese dining experience with a table full of various flavorful dishes. I will definitely return, as there are so many items on the menu to try. It was a delightful experience!
We used to enjoy dining at this restaurant when it was called Jessica's, but we hadn't been back until recently. To our surprise, we discovered it has new ownership. Out of curiosity, we decided to give it another shot, but we ended up leaving before even being seated. The owner was quite rude. He seated us at a small, less-than-clean table, and when we tried to move to a different one, he spoke to us in Vietnamese. When I explained that we didn't understand, he scolded us, insisting he didn't want us touching his tables. I've heard similar complaints about this owner, who also operates a Vietnamese sandwich shop in a Chinatown mall, where several of my friends have had negative experiences as well. It's clear we won't be returning to either place.
The staff and owner displayed unprofessional behavior and even cursed at us in Chinese, which was incredibly rude. I would advise opting for a different Chinese restaurant, as there are many other options in Calgary, and we were treated very poorly here. Furthermore, the restaurant has a mandatory tip of 15% for tables of six or more, and 10% for smaller groups, but the service we received certainly did not warrant any tip at all.
I typically don’t write reviews, but after seeing some others, I felt it was important to share my thoughts. I’ve lived close to this restaurant for years without realizing just how outstanding it is. I’m surprised by the negative comments about the owner and staff being rude or unprofessional. In my own experience, they’ve always been courteous and very accommodating, especially when it comes to dietary restrictions for health or religious reasons. After spending years working in a kitchen, I can say that customers aren’t always right—maybe some reviewers should take a moment to consider their own behavior.

The food was subpar but the service was horrible!!! We had a reservation and we're basically told after we had our soup and dumplings that we needed to
