I absolutely love Red's Diner and was thrilled to hear about their new location, which is much more accessible for everyone in the south. The food is amazing—definitely the best brunch I've had in Calgary! The staff is incredibly friendly, and they offer plenty of options for both vegetarians and vegans. What User doesn't like about Red's Diner 58th:
I was really disappointed with this breakfast. I paid $22 for a cup of tofu scramble, which consisted of cubes and some pan-fried vegetables. There were no hash browns, and the only toast I received was a single slice of peach toast. I would prefer if they didn't have this dish on the menu at all, as it seems like they put no thought into it. View all feedback.
This place has only 2 real vegan options, oatmeal and an “””egg scramble””” I ordered the tofu scramble which was a disappointment. I was hoping it had something that seemed more typically western breakfast which wast just simple oatmeal but maybe some sort of eggy dish. But even judging the dish on its own merits it still falls flat and reminds me more of a cheap marinara than a 20$ dish. 20$ is way over priced for how little is served and the quality. The customer service was also disappointing nothing outrageously terrible just generally slow service and a somewhat cold.
I love Red's diner, and was so excited to learn they opened a new location with easier access for everyone living in the South. The food is incredible, and seriously the best brunch I have had in Calgary... ever! They are extremely accommodating and have plenty of options for vegetarians and vegans. We had the hazelnut crepes and the vegetarian burger, both were incredible! Can't wait to get back to try more of their menu!
In our group of four, some of us ordered breakfast while others chose lunch. All the dishes were delicious, and the portion sizes were generous. The restaurant was quite busy during lunchtime, so we ended up sitting at the bar. It truly felt like a classic diner experience.
I ordered the classic breakfast of eggs, bacon, toast, and hash browns, along with a coffee. Unfortunately, the potatoes had an overpowering and unpleasant rancid smell, making them unappetizing. It seemed like the oil was spoiled or something similar. When I mentioned this to the server, he claimed it smelled normal to him. I did receive a coffee refill just once, right before I was about to leave. To top it off, they charged me the full amount for the meal, and their tip options start at 18%, which feels excessive considering the poor service and food quality. Excellent service is often shared with five people, while bad service is shared with everyone—hence my decision to share this experience here.
This restaurant offers only two authentic vegan options: oat flakes and a tofu cube. I ordered the tofu cube, which was quite disappointing. I had hoped for something more akin to a typical Western breakfast, perhaps a dish with a bit more variety, but I was let down. Even when assessed on its own, it didn't impress and tasted more like a cheap marinara sauce than a $20 dish. The price seemed excessive given the small portion and the overall quality. Additionally, the customer service was underwhelming—while nothing was outright terrible, the service was generally slow and somewhat unwelcoming.
