My spouse and I are visiting Calgary from the U.S I should preface this review by saying that we have a couple of VERY good Indian restaurants back home, so we are a little spoiled. We are, however, happy to have found a good option for Indian food in Calgary.Maurya is good--not quite as good as we are used to, but still well worth a visit! We had excellent service. The waiter who helped us was friendly and attentive.... View all feedback.
Maurya is a relatively small (25 tables) restaurant in the heart of Kensington. It is capable of handling bigger groups (there were three of such the night we were there) but we had a nice table by the front window. Service was quick, efficient, and friendly. Our server was very helpful when we were asking about the number of plates we needed (we were sharing) or the spice levels. We had the gosht vindaloo (spicy with perfectly cooked, tender pieces of lamb), the fish tikka masala that came with a yogurt sauce that was perfect, the vegetable biryani, and the chicken korma. We also had a couple of servings of naan and some Taj beer that went so well with the richness of the food. Our meal was on the table within 25 minutes of ordering - steaming hot. This was the first time we were there - it won't be the last.
Maurya's in Kensington has some of the BEST Indian cuisine in the city. We go for lunch during the week because they offer a buffet style lunch with amazing butter chicken! They also offer hot Naan bread for the table, fabulous chai tea and the service is always great. If I haven't been there for a couple of weeks I start craving their butter chicken!
We are fortunate to have so many good Indian restaurants in Calgary, though we also have many not-so-good ones. Maurya is definitely one of the good ones. This one is in the lovely Kensington area so combine the meal with a nice walk afterwards perhaps around the neighbourhood and then along the Bow River city trail. My friend and I shared two different gosht dishes. Both were excellent. The portions are generous, so you may want to share single portions of rice and nan. The service was good with attentive, smiling waitresses. As far as Indian restaurants in Calgary go, this is far better than any buffet, and among the better a-la-carte restaurants.
One of the best East Indian restaurant in Calgary. Tried a few different dishes and they were all delicious.
The food was delicious. The service was alright. There was no change table which always ticks me off. Price was reasonable
