It's always a treat to come here. The portions are amazing, the sushi is very very good. Make sure you have a reservation in advance because it's always packed for lunch. View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Kanpai Sushi:
Pleasant place, although a slightly odd atmosphere with numerous TVs broadcasting CTV news around the room. Food was good and nicely presented, although sushi rolls were quite expensive and the mango roll we had was overly sweet. Good green tea, although beer selection was poor as is often the case with Asian restaurants. View all feedback.
Just to start, for the review below, "Sushi Heaven," the majority of sushi places all over Ontario are NOT All-You-Can-Eat, as the split is basically 50/50. As for Kanpai, this is a fantastic place and I'm glad that I've had the privilege to eat here on numerous occasions. The selection of appetizers is vast, as well is the selection of rolls and sushi/sashimi. Everything is super fresh and very well-presented, as well the ambiance goes perfectly with your meal (aside from the televisions, that are hardly Japan-esque). Take-out is also an option at this restaurant, thus give it a try! A bit pricey though, be aware.
The only place I know right now that can replace rice with quinoa on their rolls. They do it very well too! Sashimi pieces are sizeable and very fresh. It wasn't busy, so the service was very quick. Much appreciated as I was on a quick break.
The menu is ample lots to choose from Where I come from in Ontario most of our sushi places are all you can eat made fresh as you order so I normally do not go to sushi restaurants as I find it not worth the money because you cant try a lot of stuff without paying an arm and a leg Because this was so close to my hotel and it was late and I was famished I decided to go in and try it out. I was glad I did The service was excellent and the food was amazing I had a hard time choosing what I wanted The waiter was very helpful and very patient He would check on me to see if I was ready to order and the third time he said take your time but if you have any questions please ask I asked and he helped I am going back to Calgary for work in a week and I will be going again If you like sushi you will love this place
The meal was very nice although some dishes were not 100% authentic (Karaage should use potato starch not tempura, sesame oil is usually for ramen, not udon), perhaps they were meant to be a fusion of some kind. Sushi was excellent. Taste was still very nice and it was the best meal we had on our trip to Calgary and the pricing was very fair. Well worth a visit.
