What Қырмызы Үстем likes about Ho Won Restaurant:
Shrimps-squid-tofu-vegetables, this place knows how to cook salt and pepper to perfection! Service is good, they are often incredibly busy and full of people. Everything is fresh and cooked perfectly. Decor is certainly interesting, to say the least, noisy and busy View all feedback. What Thurman Hauck doesn't like about Ho Won Restaurant:
Went here on a colleagues choice. We walked in for 4 and we're presented with standard menus. When about to order, noticed the waitress had in her hand a "Chinese selection" menu, "wor choy" menu. Wonder why this was not provided. I asked and got it. Any ways, can't say the food was spectacular, or bad. Rather the food is more catered to the western diners and not Chinese diners. Food was either too bland or too salty. Service was horrible because of not enough staff. Staff was rude and pushy. Overall bad experience. Will not be back.
Classic Chinatown restaurantThis place will win you over not by it's looks but by the flavours in your mouth.
Hands down for the best Ginger Beef, Dry Spare Ribs and Salt & Pepper Squid .... my first stop whenever I get off the plane.
Dropped in twice in July. Both times the service was absolutely excellent. Food was top notch as well. Continues to be top value, after all these years!
Best Chinese food in Calgary. This is were all the Chinese community goes. Must be good. It is good.

read moreHo Won, a longtime fixture in Calgary, offers a mixed dining experience according to customer reviews. While some find the food to be average and catering more towards Western tastes than authentic Chinese cuisine, others rave about the famous salt and pepper squid. The portions are generous and prices are reasonable, making it a popular choice for groups. However, service is consistently mentioned as a weak point, with slow service and sometimes rude staff. Despite these drawbacks, many still return for the delicious food, particularly highlighting the exceptional dim sum and other signature dishes. Overall, Ho Won seems to be a reliable spot for those looking for tasty Chinese food at a good value, as long as they are willing to overlook the subpar service.
