Cafe H.k. - Calgary
Cafe H.k.
Description
Cafe HK delivers solid Hong Kong–style comfort food in Calgary—generous portions, good dim sum and flavorful baked rice, noodles and combo dinners. The casual, clean space (with patio seating and ample parking) is a convenient alternative to the busier neighboring T Pot. Service is inconsistent: staff can be friendly and accommodating but orders are sometimes slow, mixed up or rushed near closing. Prices lean moderate-to-high but many find the portions and taste justify the cost. Best for diners seeking authentic flavors over speedy service.
Feedback
This is a fairly typical Hong Kong-style cafe in Calgary, offering a decent range of dishes like baked rice and spaghetti, noodle soups, and various rice plates featuring pork chops or boneless chicken. The quality is satisfactory for the price, and I’m usually pleased with my choices each time I visit. While it doesn't stand out as exceptional, it serves as a nice alternative to the busier T. Pot restaurant in the same building, which specializes in dim sum. The service, which is shared with T. Pot, is enjoyable. The tables are clean and comfortable, and there's a nearby washroom for convenience. If you're in the area and want to avoid the wait at a more popular spot, this cafe is definitely worth a visit. Plus, there's ample parking available outside.
It was late on a weekday evening, and it seemed like nothing was open in the area. According to Google Maps, Cafe HK was supposed to close at 10:00 PM, so we decided to head there for dinner. Unfortunately, Google Maps was incorrect about their hours, as they actually close at 9:00 PM on Tuesdays. Fortunately, when we arrived at 8:45 PM, the staff welcomed us in and took our order. The menu offered a great selection, and the food was quite good. The seating area was clean, and even though things felt a bit rushed at the end of the day, the manager was very friendly and accommodating. He gave us extra time to finish our meals, providing excellent service. I look forward to returning to try their lunch or tea menu next time!
I would give this restaurant five stars for the food, but I have to knock one off for the service. The price is a bit high at $45 per person, but the flavors are superior to most other restaurants I've tried in Hong Kong.
My family used to visit there every time when we are in Calgary. However, our last visit is disappointed. The tan tan noodle is like seasoned meat cube and added peanut butter on top. The service…no expectation. We are probably not coming back.
Patio Dinning waiter wiped our table b4 handing us menu even though the table appears clean. Our last patio dinning: we did it ourselves cuz it was very dusty. Food came with extra communal utensils. The Deep Fried Chinese long donut in rice wrap is over priced, but it was worthy it with the extra effort of the waiter.
