Description
Grill 54, located within Ceder Court Hotel, offers a mixed dining experience marred by inconsistent service and meal quality. Guests have faced significant delays in order fulfillment, leading to misplaced dishes and forgotten orders. While some patrons have enjoyed well-prepared starters and decent main courses, others encountered cold and poorly cooked items. The atmosphere suffers from both dim lighting and a lack of vibrancy, leaving diners wanting more menu variety. Although the restaurant has potential, it struggles to meet expectations typical of a four-star establishment. Improvement in service and food quality is crucial to retaining loyal customers.

Dinner during a weekday. Booked table for four. When we went there it was about six and we were seated in the pokey part of the restaurant...dark and we cannot see the menu as it was that dark. Food ...nothing to write about. Fish and chips...and others ordered the burgers with chicken. Usual fare for restaurants. More choices in the town centre...
When we have friends visiting who need accommodation, Ceder Court at Ainley Top is a good option. However, when we were invited by our friends for a 6:30 pm meal, we were hesitant. Earlier this year, we had a disappointing brunch at the hotel restaurant, 54. Despite our reservations, we tried to keep an open mind and ordered different dishes. By 6:39, we were hungry and ready for our meal, but by 7:15, nothing had arrived. Our friends had to call over a waitress to inquire about our orders. It turns out, the chef hadn't even come in on time. The food finally arrived, but it was a disaster. The chips were cold, items were missing, and the overall quality of the food was subpar. We left without finishing our meals and ended up eating elsewhere. To make matters worse, the meal appeared on our friends' bill when they checked out, but it was swiftly removed. It's a shame to see a good hotel tarnished by a poor dining experience in what should be a lucrative restaurant.
Dropped in for a business brunch and decided to try the cheese burger meal. Large meaty beef burger. Grill 54 is inside cedar court hotel large lounge area which is a great idea. Not busy. Staff very attentive. Food deliciously prepared.
During our stay at the hotel, we dined at the restaurant on our first night. All of the courses we had were excellent, though I found the desserts to be a bit overpriced at £5.95 for just an ice cream. The wine selection was good and the service staff were attentive and polite. The only downside was a loud man at the other end of the restaurant, boasting to his party (and the entire restaurant) about how great he was.
Staying for the night decided to try the Grill 54, had a Caesar salad for £7.50 for a Starter, and to be fair a nice portion of soft freshly cooked chicken with anchovies, croutons, cos lattice and a nice dressing, only complaint was that it was served in a tiny bowl so you could not get at anything other than the chicken on the top, I asked for a plate and tipped it out, good starter. For Main went for the tandoori burger with yogurt dressing and skinny chips, decent enough all the chicken was a little over cooked, suggesting reheating rather than from fresh, but for just under £20 a nice meal. A pint and a glass of house wine took it to £30 which for hotel prices is reasonable. Service was helpful and friendly certainly worth another visit.
