Yancy's - Calais
Yancy's
Description
Nestled in a charming locale, this restaurant showcases a diverse menu that includes outstanding pizzas and tantalizing fried pickles. While some diners rave about the cozy atmosphere and attentive service, others have encountered issues with food quality and portion sizes. Guests often highlight a disparity in seating availability, raising concerns about service consistency, particularly during busy hours. Despite mixed reviews regarding meal preparations, many appreciate the friendly staff and access for individuals with disabilities. While it's clear that personal experiences vary widely, the culinary offerings, especially the signature dishes, promise a potentially delightful dining outing.

I rate this restaurant four stars because I haven't had enough experience with Yancy's to confidently give it a higher score. I can't call it perfect since I'm not a regular and don't have much to compare it to. I've only dined there once, but I really enjoyed the food. The staff was also very helpful and dedicated.
During our trip through the remote areas of Maine, we found ourselves needing a meal and decided to stop at Yancey's. I ordered the haddock and chips, while my wife chose the haddock burger with a side salad. The fish was moist, flaky, and tender, perfectly wrapped in a crisp beer batter. I also liked the tartar sauce, which was lighter and less oily than many I've had before. The fries were crispy and golden, adding to our overall enjoyment of the meal. We were delighted to find this hidden gem in such a small town, which had only a few businesses nearby.
The pizza… oh, the pizza! I really wish we could find pizza in Massachusetts that’s even close to this delicious. The fries were cooked exactly to my liking: crispy and well done. Our waiter, Mitch, was incredibly attentive. Now I understand why my friends frequent this place so often. I will definitely be coming back too!
This is definitely the best dinner spot in town—I’ve tried three places so far. The calzone was among the best I’ve had in years, with a perfectly crisp crust on the outside and a flavorful, non-watery filling. One of my companions raved about the turkey club, while another thoroughly enjoyed the buffalo chicken pizza. There are about six dining options on this side of the border, but this restaurant stands out for its commitment to high-quality comfort food as well as healthier options, like veggie burgers and local cucumber sandwiches featured as specials. If you only take one piece of advice from me, make sure to visit this place for dinner.
