The Spice Tree - Caerphilly
The Spice Tree
Description
The Spice Tree presents a varied dining experience, with patrons expressing both satisfaction and disappointment. While some highlight the delightful, well-presented dishes and attentive service, others lament the blandness of the food and chaotic service. Many guests found the curries lacking distinct flavors, with several dishes tasting similar. The atmosphere, once vibrant, now feels worn and disorganized due to staff changes. However, those who have enjoyed meals report great value for money, friendly staff, and prompt service. Overall, The Spice Tree remains a polarizing destination, appealing to some while leaving others yearning for improvement.

The food was terrible. I will never order takeout from this restaurant again. The chicken biryani tasted like greasy fried onion rice and the pakoras were like soggy pancakes in both color and flavor. I was extremely disappointed!
I had a wonderful dinner tonight, with great value for money at £17.95 for a four-course meal. I have been a loyal customer for several years, and the food has always been fantastic. Despite seeing some negative reviews recently, I decided to give it a try tonight and I couldn't fault it at all.
We used to be regular customers until tonight when we ordered Indian food for New Year's Eve. Our order arrived almost an hour late and was missing our chutney tray, poppadoms, onion bhajis, and our meal was cold. When we called to complain, we were told that the cold food was due to the weather, not the delay. We were offered a replacement meal, but it would take another 30 minutes, so we ended up microwaving our food. We agreed to receive the missing items on our next order, but they were not included. When we called to place another order and explained what happened, the manager was rude and only offered to give us the chutney tray. After expressing disappointment and deciding to go somewhere else, the manager accused us of blackmail and hung up. The customer service was terrible, and we will not be returning. The food on New Year's Eve wasn't great, but we gave them a second chance.
I used to go here all the time as the restaurant is nice and the meal deals they do are excellent value. Went here with friends recently though, and unfortunately the food was quite bland in most the meals we tried. The meal deals are still on and again, these can't be beaten on value, but we did find that the customer service has gone down hill. Surly waiter, and even the guy I thought was the manager seemed to be in a mood. I've been here lots of times in the past and things were much better. I can only think that maybe the waiters are getting fed up of customers ordering off the cheaper menus, but that's not the customer's fault if the offers are on? Come on Spice Tree, please don't go down hill, you've been consistently good before, just need to work on improving the flavour a little and being a bit friendlier to the customers.
Visited the Spice Tree recently and my husband and I both had the 4 course meal. Great choice of starters and main course/sundries. All the food was wonderful, very tasty and well presented. All the staff are very welcoming and friendly. Lovely atmosphere in the restaurant, with great service. Really enjoyed our evening. Thank you very much we will be returning very soon
