The staff on the whale excursion ship had mentioned that this establishment had won best ice cream in the province of Quebec. We were curious, we drove through Cacouna and did not see the place, good thing we were going further East. We finally spotted the place few km passes town. The building did not look like much from outside but we're we surprise when inside. Interesting gelato flavours and the taste was divine.... View all feedback.
What Anna Lis doesn't like about Bar Laitier Ali-Baba:
the gelato does not arrive at the level of place like "tuto gélato" in quebec, the choice is a little restricted, but for a place lost in the countryside the detour in vaux the penalty. Attention, however, there were glazed cuts made of advance that seemed quite dry and not appetizing. the extension of Highway 20 to three blocks seems to have affected the number of customers View all feedback.
Every summer, I stop at Ali-Baba for either a homemade sherbet or gelato on a cone. I find cones much more fun that eating from a cup but that's neither here or there. Ali-Baba's owner, learned the art of making Italian gelato and sherbets in Milan over twenty years ago. He is passionate about the flavour, texture and quality of his products. He likes his gelato rich so they are made with heavy cream. It's a nice place to stop if you are driving along Highway 132 between Rivière-du-Loup and Rimouski or biking in the area. There's a covered area to enjoy your gelato in case of rain. There's also a small grocery store next door to stock up on essentials for campers. If your are driving along Highway 20, it's worth taking the exit for Cacouna to appreciate the view of the St-Lawrence River along Route 132, to slow down and enjoy a calorie heavy gelato at Ali-Baba's. After all, it's vacation time!
My chum told me about this fervent cremerie and unfortunately I didn't know her. Now it's done and what a discovery! This dairy bar makes ice creams and sorbets on site, with fresh fruit, source water (for sorbets), like the "garato" of Italian! And that, from cacouna! After having tasted the raspberry sorbet, I kindly suggested to the owner a move to the town of quebec, but in vain. Even if Highway 20 stops at cacouna now, it's worth a little detour!
A master glacier installed for more than 40 years and an exceptional result. My best ice shop stays in france but ali baba arrives just after. The products are of high quality, let's go!

Undeniably, it's an excellent dairy bar. Quality, and innovation taste research are at the rendezvous.
