We had takeout so my only observation would be that since it took 13 minutes to get my meal home the batter on the fish had lost its crispiness. However, that does not detract from the quality of the food served. Chips (fries) were proper ‘English’ ones and fish was white, flaky, succulent and a good but not excessive portion size. Two fish and one chip is plenty for most normal appetites. I was very happy with this... View all feedback.
What ClaudiaDor doesn't like about Thistle Fish & Chips:
Ordered haddock and fries. The fish was good, the fries was trash, meaning it was only okay to be trashed…. In the garbage. Incomprehensible- I don’t think they made fresh fries for several days and decided to just warm up the very hard dried up wrinkled old fries and packed it up with the crispy fried fish. If the fries were free I definitely would not complain, However; the fries cost almost five dollars extra. Ver... View all feedback.
Looking for somewhere to eat where we had not been in a while and we were craving fish and chips. Checked the hours online and said open until 6pm on a Saturday. We were excited and drove almost 45 minutes to find a note on the door saying dining in closing ar 4. We were there at 4:15. When I asked the lady at the counter, she was rude and told us 6pm is for take out only. And dining is closed. Well, that's not what their website said. We ended up ordering take out. Almost $60 of food that was soggy and not good. The lady at the takeout area was also rude. Asked if we wanted condiments. I asked for lots of tarter sauce and 2 packs of malt vinegar. I was told I was only allowed to have three tiny packets of tarter sauce for each of our three orders. I told her three was not enough as we like tarter sauce. I had to pay extra for more. This was so very disappointing. How much really do these tiny packets cost?? I'm not selling them!!! I'm enjoying them with the food I bought from you. The food for takeout was cold, soggy and not good. The fries seemed old and just reheated to give to us. Very dissatisfied. We used to come here often and even would reccomend to others. Trying to support local small restaurants. Never again and wont be back. Not worth the money and poor service

There are actually better FISH and CHIPS in Burlington.
The food is very good and the restaurant people are always so friendly and helpful. The food portions are more then enough and hot when served The chowder is delicious would recommend this restaurant always Have not dined in as yet but the past year have had take out .
I've been going to THE THISTLE for about 30 years and despite having competitor's fish chips from across the natiion and even in the U.K. I have never found a better HALIBUT CHIPS it is to die for, it is that good. I call their halibut, white steak, so flavourful, so delicious and the best chips, ever, no kidding. I only wish I lived nearby so I could go every day, or at least once a week. You won't be disappointed.
I recently rediscovered the Thistle after 10+ years. I had stopped eating here after some really bad service. We decided to give it another chance and was blown away by the fish and chips and the clam chowder. Went back again days later for more. The fish (we had the halibut) was cooked perfectly without the heavy batter and also the chowder was the best we had had in years. I can honestly say their fried fish is by far the best I've ever had, period!
