The Gault Millau part of the restaurant is reached by passing through the main entry and area. It leads into a rectangular dining area comprising six to seven tables. The décor and styling is quite bland with limited character and personality and with the most awful acoustics where the voices of each guest is amplified by the low ceilings and absence of any furnishings/plants to take away or diminish the sound. As first impressions go, the lack of personality of the restaurant combined with the noise amplification comes as quite a shock and a disappointment. However, the team dressed in warm and traditional clothing, were warm, friendly, cheerful and professional. Sadly, for non-German speaking visitors, there is no English menu and not all of the staff speak English. We were very lucky that the member of the team who looked after us spoke fluent English and made every effort to help us and put us at ease. The menu comprised either a tasting menu of five plus courses or a more limited a-la-carte. Traditionally, we have always opted for the a la carte, knowing that the tasting menu can take a while. We opted for the foie gras and separately the salad combined with the fillet of lamb and steinbutt fillet. The focaccia breads, with accompaniments and the amuse bouche were delicious and they set up for a very pleasant experience for the rest of the meal. However, it all went terribly wrong when we had to wait over 90 minutes for the first course and almost as long for the second course. For the first time in our lives, we even had to comment on this and one member of the team noted that the kitchen could not cope with the combined restaurants' volume and apparently a mistake had happened. They were very apologetic and we felt for them. Sadly, the very very slow experience really impacted the overall pleasure of the meal and we noted with even with one table not occupied, the food speed of delivery was equally slow elsewhere. However, the quality of the food was simply superb and the management were very professional in reducing costs slightly due to the delay and were also very apologetic. In summary, if you could transport the quality of the food to a restaurant with a nicer décor, better acoustics and faster and more efficient serving from the kitchen, we would absolutely love to return. Sadly, we will not and we wish the team every success and hope that these issues could be addressed for future guests. It is also worth noting that this restaurant appears to be very much a local haunt and may therefore not suit everybody.
Had dinner with my friend. The starter bison tartar was simply sublime. The veal medaillons as a main were just finishing off a wonderful meal. The Löwen is just a wonderful experience. What a place!
We visited this Restaurant for the first time to celebrate out marriage anniversary. Service staff was outstandig, Food order a la carte was good and nicely presented. Overall we spent a very nice evening in a nice atmosphere. A small downturn was that certain customers are treated differently. Although Gourmet dinner is not served on the terrace; one very Special Group was treated this way. This is a bit awkward; but I guess this is the professional handling of VIP customers.
Reservation Simple and uncomplicated by phone. Reception, service operation Very friendly welcome we were served attentively. All tables and seats were occupied. Everyone in the service team is very knowledgeable. Aperitif, food wine list I had the cold, white mulled wine for the aperitif it was a hit. Cooking is done at a high level. Everything was fine. The dessert was a small work of art Wine list: Balanced across the world in all price and quality classes Ambiance furnishings (sound smells) Very comfortable, we were Indians. As always, Christmas decorations were very opulent and very appropriate and stylish. The noise level was good and we were able to have a good conversation. Toilets Very clean, well maintained in good condition. Conclusion At Löwen Bubikon they have managed to maintain the standard at this high level for 23 years that's top and deserves respect
