The questions abound when considering the Gumbo Brothers. Do they have gumbo? Po boys? Is it good? Is it authentic? Does the bread for the po boys taste like it came from New Orleans? Are they really brothers? The answer to all of those questions is a resounding yes, except maybe the brothers thing (they appear to be best buds from LSU). The rest is affirmative. What Jonathan F doesn't like about The Gumbo Bros:
My partner and his family are originally from New Orleans and love authentic cajun gumbo so I decided to give this place a try. Ordered takeout. I was completely displeased with the gumbo. I ordered the shrimp. I expected for it to have a mixture of chicken and spicy sausage but was I wrong. The gumbo was so watered down and the shrimp were so over cooked I literally ended up throwing the dish away. There goes over $... View all feedback.
Drove an hour from NJ to satisfy my gumbo craving and Gumbo Bros did not disappoint! The food was delicious and the atmosphere brought me back to New Orleans.
This is the same one as the one in Nashville. Bottom line: this is delicious and one of the best gumbo in NYC. Everything they make here is sourced from the south.(they even had a map telling you where they get everything from) Menu is online. We had dine-in, but a lot of people were getting takeout. The restaurant is small and definitely will not fit groups bigger than four. The staff was super friendly and fast. They were bringing out take out orders super quickly! We had the fried chicken poboy sandwich, gumbo, beers and beignets! Everything was so delicious! The beers were awesome!
Thinking of having a Gumbo since it’s Mardi Gras. Google a bit, and the place showed up. The Seafood Gumbo is good, and they’re very generous on the shrimps! I ordered a pickup and don’t need to wait long. Staff is friendly.
I came here for lunch and let full satisfied! I did the $15 lunch combo which came with a half shrimp po’boy, cup of gumbo and drink. It was my first time having both items and I thoroughly enjoyed the meal. And the banana pudding was so good! Will definitely be back next time I’m in Brooklyn!

As the weather gets chillier my order typically tilts toward gumbo, but today I had to get the classic fried shrimp and fried chicken po boys. Awesome. Traditional bread. Sweet fried shrimp on the first and classic fried chicken on the second. Perfect mao/tomato/lettuce. Feels like I'm back in the garden district, even though I'm a NOLA wannabe not a denizen. This place is great. Go now.
