We had dinner at Sofreh a few weeks ago, and it was good but not great. We ate: a baby red gem lettuce salad with Mejdool dates, radish, tahini and honey dressing, and toasted sesame seeds; maitake mushrooms with sunchokes and whey; kofteh made with beef, tarragon, rice, and split peas and served in tomato saffron broth and topped with yogurt; half duck Fesenjan: braised leg of duck in pomegranate walnut sauce served with pan roasted duck breast; a side of saffron rice; and a side of tahdig. We also had some drinks: a Tehran dirty martini TIto's and pickled almond brine , wine, and Persian black tea. The food was good overall. I did think the duck breast was overcooked, but the braised leg was good. The service was a little confusing, too. I'm not even sure who our server was, because several different people stopped by our table but no one ever really introduced themselves as our server. We had to try to get staff's attention a few times to order food and to order more drinks, and we weren't really sure who we were supposed to ask. They were definitely busy, but service was not attentive. Overall, the meal was a little bit of a letdown. I had made sure to get a reservation during the long holiday weekend we were going to be in New York, and I had really been looking forward to the meal. Maybe because of how much I had been looking forward to it, the experience was a little bit of a letdown.

This is more of an upscale restaurant aesthics inside remind me a fancy cave like atmosphere. Absolutely love. Service is five star, hostess's and servers alike. The food is very tasty. Eggplant dip and yogurt dip for apps fresh. I got the lamb shank which was fall off the bone good. The chicken with pomegranate was my fave dish. Place is on the more expensive side so this would be a place for a special occasion.
