The atmosphere, music, drinks, and food were all delightful. Their specialty drink, Benevolence, was absolutely fantastic. I highly recommend this restaurant. If it hadn’t been so windy and cold during my visit, I would have loved to dine in their outdoor area, which is such a unique setup.
The outstanding service at this restaurant justifies the automatic 20% gratuity included in every bill. The outdoor garden area is lovely, adding to the overall experience. Our group savored Oasis mocktails, Caribbean tater tots, fried sweet plantains with garlic sauce, and mofongo (one vegan and one with duck). Everything was delicious, and the food arrived quickly. I was pleased to see several vegan and vegetarian options on the menu, and I can’t wait to try them on my next visit.
I had high expectations for this restaurant, but unfortunately, I was disappointed. The jerk chicken had a pleasant smoky flavor, but it was undercooked. The rice was dry, and the tostones didn't suit my taste. My friend also wasn't pleased with her crab-fried rice.
I stopped by Sally Roots around 8 pm on a Wednesday and found the atmosphere very inviting, with cozy seating both indoors and outdoors. We opted to sit outside, where the setup was pleasant. After browsing their online menu, I ordered a Dos Equis for $7. Unfortunately, the beer was a bit flat, but I didn’t mention it to the staff. For our main dishes, we chose the Curried Chicken ($18) and Curried Vegetables ($17). Although the prices were somewhat steep, the food was quite flavorful. The rice portion was small, and my curried vegetables leaned towards the sweet side, featuring chunks of carrot, potato, and celery in a Caribbean yellow curry sauce. It lacked heat, and I wished it came with a spicy scotch bonnet sauce. I also tried a Pacifico for $6, which was an improvement over the Dos Equis. Service was attentive, with our food arriving in about 20 minutes. The noise level was moderate, making it easy to chat. Overall, I had a positive experience at Sally Roots.
We were looking forward to trying the place this was not what we could have imagined 0/10. We visited the restaurant in February. The place traumatized us so bad it took months to actually come to terms with the experience. If you're looking for Caribbean food, you'll be disappointed. If you're looking for good food, you're better off going elsewhere. The restaurant was FREEZING! We had to keep our thick coats on the entire time and we were still cold. They sat us in the back and it was like the restaurant had no heat. They tried to place heaters in the area but even the other tables next to us had their coats on said they were freezing. The grilled shrimp appetizer was 2/10. Nice sized pieces, zero flavor. The frisée salad with grapefruit was terrible. Didn't pair well with the shrimp seemed like a plate filler. The red snapper with coconut milk 2/10. Again ZERO FLAVOR. We added everything we could to give the food flavor. Salt, pepper, hot sauce couldn't make the food taste better. The drinks 2/10. Over priced and the bartender had a very light hand. For a place advertising Caribbean cuisine this is a complete joke disrespectful to the Caribbean community. Save your money and go to your neighborhood Caribbean spot with rude service great food.
