When the dishes didn’t match their menu descriptions, the staff’s reaction was disappointingly unprofessional. I visited to sample options for a large catering order, but because of the poor service, I would never consider placing an order with Rita.

Still, I think more new cafes could take a pag... read more Writing a review for a spot in Red Hook might seem unnecessary since you’ll probably visit if you’re in the area. Still, I think more new cafes could take a page from Rita’s book. They’ve mastered creating a warm, inviting atmosphere with a simple yet healthy menu—the $9 egg sandwich is definitely worth trying. Above all, their consistently friendly service stands out. If you’ve been let down by the lack of good social spots for our generation, Rita will restore your faith. My only minor gripe is the plain strip of mirror along the bench; no one wants to see themselves up close at 8:30 in the morning. Some decoration there would really soften the space.

Right now, I'm savoring a beet hummus salad with soft-boiled eggs, and it’s easily one of the best salads I’ve ever tasted. The coffee here is excellent as well. Many ingredients come from local suppliers, which is a great touch. Mary, the owner, is a wonderful and charming person. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, making it a perfect place to dine.

While I might recommend this restaurant for a large catering order, I wouldn’t personally order from them again because of how I was treated.
