I would highly recommend to all you steak lovers out there. And it was beautiful inside and out. I sat in the restaurant with my husband and my 2 boys and we all enjoyed it. The kiddos had sirloins with pasta on the side. I shared a tomahawk steak with my husband. And it was terrific. It is very big though so I recommend splitting it with someone. But the overall experience was amazing and the place is beautiful and the family enjoyed it. They do keep the formula simple here no fri... read more I’ve been wanting to make a visit to this NYC steakhouse institution since I moved here and I finally got my chance. They do keep the formula simple here no frills German ale house decor, top notch service, and a simple menu of steak for 1, 2, 3 or 4along with a short list of traditional steakhouse appetizers and sides. And it seems to work. The place was packed on the nightwe visited, as I’m sure it has been for much of its 100+ year history with customers crowded in the lounge waiting to becalled into the surprisingly small dining space. All the food was wonderful. We started with two strips of bacon which wererecommended as a starter by our server. You might think bacon an odd choice to start when the main is going to be a huge steak.I admit I did. But do not miss this! This is next level bacon and quite possibly the best I’ve ever eaten. For the sides wewent with the creamed spinach and their special German style potatoes both very solid. And the steak was excellent servedsliced on a super hot plate in its oil and juices that they pour over as they start you off with a couple of slices. But was itthe best steak ever? For me I don’t think it was but lucky for me, I don’t have to travel outside NYC for it either. Allin all though, it was still a great experience that I’d recommend at least once to anyone that loves a good steak.
