Was William byrd at Menya Jiro a mag?
Dynamic little spot with great food and fast service. The flavors are amazing and the really look like they take pride in their product. Small and out of the way,...sort of.....but none the less, because the food is great. View all feedback.

What James Neil dislikes about Menya Jiro:
Pretty good. I feel like there could have been more broth in the soup bowl but maybe they want you to order that? I think I saw “extra broth” on the menu. The samurai sword chopsticks were cute but not very easy to use for eating noodles. View all feedback.

I'll be honest I wasn't expecting this place to be amazing. I was staying at the hotel around the corner, and didn't want to go too far for lunch before heading to the airport. The front desk recommended this place, and I am so glad that they did WOW. My wife had ramen and it was rich, delicious and a solid amount of food. We shared the spicy fried chicken which was both delicious and spicy. I was in more of a sushi mood, and while most places that do soup and sushi tend to delivery mediocrity on at least one Menya Jiro killed it. The quality of the fish was fantastic, and the presentation of the rolls shows they are confident in their quality (no cream cheese or fluff). For $7 a roll these were a slamming deal, and that sentiment applied to the experience as a whole. Don't sleep on this spot because it delivers on every level amazing food, great prices and overall good service. A must visit, even if you've gotta go an extra subway stop or two!

I heard about this restaurant from friends and visited to see what it was like. Service was quick and attentive. I ordered Sakurajima ramen with yaki gyoza and a genmaicha; the ramen was just the right level of spicy! The gyoza were also crispy and not burnt or soggy like at some other places. The genmaicha was a nice palate cleanser after the really hearty ramen. Prices were pretty good by NYC standards: $15+7 for ramen and extra toppings, $9.5 for gyoza and $3 for tea. Would definitely come back with friends.

I tried the ramen at a Japan Festival held in Chelsea this year and was quite disappointed. I ordered four small bowls of ramen for $12 each, and each bowl only had about four bites of ramen in it. Each bowl had a different taste, with three tasting watered down, one tasting quite good, and two having too much raw onion. If this is a sample of their ramen, I would be hesitant to try it at the restaurant. The gyoza was okay, with inconsistent but good flavor and texture. Additionally, the ramen was lukewarm by the time I found a place to eat it in 2-3 minutes.

The reviewer's rating is based solely on the ramen and not the side dishes, with additional notes on the side dishes provided at the end of the review. The broth is rated 3/5 for its cleanliness and flavor, though lacking creaminess and heaviness. The cha shu is rated 3/5 for being tough and lean, while the noodles receive a 5/5 for being thick and satisfying. Overall, the reviewer finds the place average and mentions the possibility of trying a richer broth ramen in the future. In terms of side dishes, the Karaage, Pork Buns, and Spam onigiri receive thumbs down for various reasons, including blandness and preference for different meat cuts. The reviewer suggests skipping the Spam onigiri due to its oversized nature.
