A very satisfying vegetarian breakfast. Staff were kind, food came out quickly, and the congee was delicious. It had just the right amount of flavor for a first meal of the day. It was the comfort that you want from a bowl of congee. Happy to have this in the neighborhood. View all feedback.
What M B doesn't like about Maya Congee Cafe:
Watered down asian food for people that don't like much flavor. I found the broth to lack a depth of flavor and while there was a wide variety of toppings, none of them particularly stood out. View all feedback.
Fabulous Congee and Banh Mi.....and a great variety of quality products Australian chai! They also kept my waterbottle for 2 weeks after I left it there, and I found it there yesterday! so kind!
I don't leave reviews often, but over the past few months the quality of the food has been wildly inconsistent at the Gates Ave location. Some days would serve congee at the perfect consistency and level of flavor, but most it would be watery and tasteless (I even took a covid test to confirm! . Ordering here is a dice roll on whether you get good food or service--never both. This place could be a hit, so I hope something changes very soon.
There's something exhausting and all too familiar about oatmeal, and when you come for Maya Congee, that tiredness gets wiped away by the by quality and format of various porridge on the menu. With soft egg, kimchis and broccoli salad, stewed pork and espresso drinks, there's no shortage of touchpoints throughout your breakfast order, even if none of these things are typically ordered in your household, albeit at all. Can't recommend more strongly for those mornings when strength and stability are sought before the chores of the day begin.
Not the best Vietnamese coffee but it is tasty (who doesn 't love condensed milk). It 's more sweet than that well balanced strong flavored concoction I 'm used to. The coffee is kept hot so fyi when getting iced coffee to shake well so the ice doesn 't water it down.Got a whitefish banh mi for take out. Once I finally made it home exhausted from my walk I ravenously ate one half of the decent sized sammie. But all the while I was thinking, this is a delicious smoked fish but I do wish it had something. Hmm was there supposed to be heat in this sando? Lo and behold there was a spicy indicator on the menu and it was spelled out but maybe forgotten. I definitely didn 't taste any mayo, for that I 'm very glad. But sadly seems that that was suppose to provide the heat. Overall I wanted congee but I was a bit weary to try it due to the reviews/images but that 's never stopped me from exploring new takes on food. Seeing as everything was tasty it 's next on my list.
White fish salad bahn mi?? F yes! It was fire! This pic only shows half of my generous sandwich.
