June 2021 update still delicious and amazing. Try sandwiches and pickles, can’t go wrong. Go off to the extreme meat brunch, got a corned beef pastrami omelet and it was great! Fries are always crispy. Really love the old country feel in there and the team is hemmish and super funny. OMG nom! Delicious place for a quick lunch! View all feedback.
What Alex Wagner dislikes about Gottlieb's:
Only place I’ve ever dined where I dined solo and gratuity was automatically added to the check. Not super friendly, but eh! What can you do?$30 for a soda and a dry brisket sandwich. Go to Frankel’s for a better value. View all feedback.
I ordered a hot pastrami on rye with sauerkraut and mustard, a spinach potato knish, and matzo ball soup. The total came to $31 for those three items, with the sandwich alone costing $17. The reviews on Google are not accurate, as this deli does not deserve its overall 4.6 star rating. Yelp's rating of 3.5 stars is more accurate in my opinion. I would not recommend joining me on this disappointing experience. The matzo ball soup was bland with a mild chicken flavor, similar to diluted Campbell's chicken broth. The knish, however, was tasty with a flaky exterior and nice mix of spinach and potato flavors. The pastrami sandwich is deceptively full in appearance, with most of the meat stacked in the center and thin amounts around the perimeter. The pastrami itself was tasty, not overly fatty or salty, but the sauerkraut and mustard toppings were scarce. Overall, the sandwich is not worth $17 for the amount of meat provided. I believe other delis make better pastrami sandwiches than this top Jewish deli in NYC. I recommend listening to the negative reviews, as this sandwich is not worth the cost. I am writing this review in disappointment with my experience.
The gefilte fish is as good as the bobe The Pastrami also highly recommended Traditional Jewish food Highly recommended
Had the pastrami sandwich on wye with Russian Dressing and fried onions (plus pickles on the side). One of the most enjoyable sandwiches I can remember eating. The pastrami was juicy and nicely warm, lovely fresh bread and great pickles. Would definitely go again.
