Description

Falansai is a unique restaurant that successfully blends Vietnamese and Mexican cuisines to create innovative and delicious dishes. The space is welcoming and service is friendly. Some standout dishes include a tostada with fresh seafood and a congee with corn and duck confit. The tasting menu may not be the best value compared to the regular menu. The wine pairing options are well matched and good value. The dac biet feast is highly recommended for a group to fully experience the diverse flavors. The selection of wines is impressive. The ambiance is perfect for a laid-back Brooklyn vibe with great lighting. The food is flavorful, especially when accompanied by alcohol. The coconut pudding dessert is refreshing. The lamb skewers and duck neck are must-tries. The vegetarian options are surprisingly among the best dishes. Overall, Falansai is a top-notch restaurant in NYC that offers an exceptional culinary experience.

Easiest 5-star rating I’ve given in awhile. Falansai is an incredible modern vietnamese/south east asian restaurant that really pushes the boundaries of what one would consider vietnamese cuisine, in the best way possible. To get the fullexperience, go with a group and order the dac biet feast. Its an incredible deal (about $80pp for 5-6 courses) and comes as anabsolute unit of a tasting menu. Highlights were a wonderfully balanced spicy coconut curry accompanying a perfectly fried blackbass, and a grilled vietnamese pork chop that was pretty life-changing. The spring roll vermicelli salad was no chump either.Everything was brought up a notch or two by the excellent chili fish sauces and pickles that just kept coming. Solid selectionof natural wines as well, and the only regret is that i didnt get to try the cocktails which looked good. Cool patio in the backfor warm summer nights.

Run don’t walk to Falansai! The tasting menu was hit after hit after hit. The Vietnamese Mexican fusion of flavors, all the different side sauces and pickled veg… ah incredible. I could not stop gushing over the food. We loved our server and the winepairings. The restaurant’s vibe is that perfect laid back brooklyn vibe with artistic flair and great lighting. My favoriteculinary experience this year.

Food is amazing. I dream about the Nam Dua (mushrooms, greens, noodles). The mackarel spicy green curry is a close second. And if you like duck, the duck neck is so succulent and innovative as a dish. Last dish below is the beef skewers The only downside is they were out of everything when we were there the black bass, the orange wine we wanted a second glass of, the hemp kombucha and one other item. It was pretty awkward

Everything was excellent. We were surprised that the vegetarian versions of the dumplings and curry were among the best parts of the meal. Egg rolls and tuna were incredible as well. Great value too.

I’ve been curious about Falansai for a while because it blends Vietnamese and Mexican cuisines, and overall, it’s a fantastic combination. The atmosphere is relaxed and inviting, and the staff are friendly. While some dishes stood out more than others, I was impressed by the creative fusion and how well the flavors complemented each other. The dishes offered exciting and unique tastes that still felt natural and vibrant. Highlights included a seafood tostada topped with fish sauce and Birds Eye chili, and a congee featuring corn and duck confit. If I have one critique, it’s our choice to go with the tasting menu. We were attracted by the idea of trying dishes not on the regular menu and sampling a wider variety. However, since we hadn’t tried the regular menu yet, anything would have been new, and the tasting menu portions are full size, so you don’t actually get to try more dishes. Plus, it’s not the best value compared to ordering a la carte. On the plus side, the wine pairing—offered in both three and five glass options—was a highlight; we chose the three-glass pairing and found the selections well matched and reasonably priced. Overall, I’d give Falansai a tentative five stars and look forward to coming back to try the regular menu, especially the duck neck, which sounds incredible.
