Reviews - Downs River Inc
Reviews summary
Patrons of a local eatery have expressed a wide range of opinions, revealing a restaurant experience that varies greatly. While some diners appreciate the hearty portions and flavorful selections such as oxtail and snapper, others lament disappointing dishes characterized by blandness and inconsistencies, notably in macaroni and cheese and fried chicken orders. Customer service issues and order mix-ups have also marred some visits, though positive interactions highlight the welcoming nature of staff. Though nostalgia draws regulars back, it's clear the establishment must address taste and service concerns to elevate its standing among diners.

I had my first dining experience at this restaurant, and I was impressed with the quality of the food, which was served hot. However, the temperature inside the restaurant was rather warm. On a positive note, they offer generous portion sizes for the price. View all feedback.
What marjorie cooke dislikes about Downs River Inc:
Overall, I felt that this restaurant was a bit of a scam. The prices appear to change daily depending on the staff. I usually order the medium saltfish and sweet potato, which typically costs $10. However, when I requested to add callaloo, they charged me an extra $9! My total ended up being $19. I usually just come here for breakfast, but I'm thinking about going to a different location in the future. View all feedback.

My Brother Junior recommended this place to me. He said it took him 2 days to eat their roti. He was not lying, they really put a lot of meat in it. I went twice already bought 4 on my last visit. I even recommend it to a lady I met at the laundry mat. TheRoti was delicious I enjoyed it down to the last bite.
Overall this place is a rip off. They make up prices...everyday the same thing is a different price depending on who is working. Medium saltfish and sweet potato which is typicall $10 i askeD them to add calaloo ...they carged me $9 extra! Yes $19. I onlycome for bkfast but will start driving elsewhere.
First of all, I don’t write fake reviews or get paid for this—I’m simply sharing my experience. As I mentioned before, the food was terrible, and there was corn in the mac and cheese. Maybe the same spoon was used to serve both, I’m not sure. All I know is that what I wrote is the truth. Please improve the quality of your food. Thank you!
I visited Downs River Inc expecting to enjoy Callaloo with dumplings, but it was a huge letdown. The dish lacked any real flavor—just bland vegetables and water. It was especially disappointing since I was craving it early in the morning. Sadly, I won’t be coming back. If you’re looking for tasty food, I suggest trying somewhere else because this place is seriously missing something.

The food was pleasantly different this time, with the flavors being just right and everything overall perfect, except for one fish dish. However, they could reduce the amount of oil or butter used in preparing the Coco Bread Single.
The macaroni and cheese was bland, with only a tough layer of cheese on top. Furthermore, the meat portions were quite small given the size of the order. Overall, it was a disappointing experience.

I've been going to this restaurant since my days living just a block away in public housing, long before I got married eight years ago. Even though I now live in central Jersey, I still make it a point to visit whenever I'm within a 30-minute drive. I can't resist their oxtail and snapper dishes, and their saltfish with callaloo breakfast, served with fried dumplings, is an absolute must-try!

Delicious fresh breakfast. Felt like I was in Jamaica. Love the bright colors and the outside patio to eat. Short boss was very friendly and energetic. He assisted me right away. I had a mix up porridge with oatmeal and banana and fritters. Delicious thats a way to start your morning.
