Was Confessions of a Food Freak at Chuko a mag?
This is my favorite ramen spot. I've been coming here for years, and it's the perfect place for solo dining. The staff is consistently attentive, and the ramen is always outstanding. I also love the buns and Brussels sprouts as great additions to my meal. Occasionally, I even channel my inner Naruto and indulge in two bowls because it's just that delicious. While there can sometimes be a long wait, there are plenty o... View all feedback.
What onthegoboomer dislikes about Chuko:
This review is for Chuko at Terminal C LaGuardia, but I assume the two locations have a similar menu. You need to sit down, scan a QR code, and order online. I didn’t realize I had to request the roll to be cut, and they didn’t add sesame seeds. I had to send it back to be cut. The cucumber was too large and very hard, which hurt my gums. I won’t be returning. View all feedback.

The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. We have tried some of their cocktails that were delicious and generous. the food was also delicious. we had a few small tellers, then a ground pork and a chicken bowl. everything was perfect. two cocktails, 2 glasses wein, 2 small tellers, 2 of their larger tellers. under $100.
It was my friend's birthday and we planned to go to Chuko. It was extremely crowded so we decided to check out it's Sister restaurant, Bar Chuko, across the street. We had a nice time. Waitstaff were extremely pleasant and informative. Cocktails were refreshing. We had Tokyo Mules. Great place to come to try different items in small plates, some Japanese and others are more of a fusion. The larger plate (or bowl) was a Chicken Ramen which was quite good. Ambience could be enhanced but overall experience made for a nice evening.
Loved the set up and the vibes of the restaurant. Garlic wings were great.. Not impressed with the ramen however. Many of the items were overpriced. Don't think I would return as I had bettrr expectations
I didnt love the food and the bill was not cheap. I wouldnt say it was horrible or even bad but since brooklyn has such great food I would opt for a different restaurant.
I really wanted to enjoy this meal, but my fiancée unfortunately led us to a culinary disaster. After attempting to try Chuko Ramen and being told we’d have to wait an hour and a half, we needed a backup plan. The host suggested Bar Chuko down the street if we didn't want to wait. I couldn't understand why people would endure a 90-minute wait for noodles! Well, now I know why: dining at Bar Chuko simply isn't very good. We decided to start with wings because how could anyone mess those up? Unfortunately, these wings were so greasy that our empty plate looked untouched. We really did try to eat them! I ordered the tuna tartare dish priced at $19, thinking the most expensive item on the menu would be delicious. What arrived looked like a deconstructed spicy tuna roll served in a bowl. The rice was plain and at room temperature, the tuna was a mushy, overly seasoned mixture, and the few pieces of seaweed were disappointing. I was not satisfied at all. My fiancée opted to wait for the ramen, hoping that since it's from the same kitchen, it would be worth it. I really hope that's not the case; if it is, I can't believe anyone would justify a 90-minute wait for it. We've had better ramen from $0.50 instant noodle packets at home. To make matters worse, the two young people at our communal table kept getting up to use the restroom. While I don’t blame the restaurant for their actions, it’s a risk when you sit with strangers—you never know who you'll be dealing with. If you’re looking for an alternative to waiting for ramen, I wouldn’t recommend Bar Chuko. There are plenty of other places on Vanderbilt Avenue that don’t have long waits, and I’m sure you can find something you’ll love there.
Bar Chuko in Brooklyn's Prospect Heights neighborhood is a popular go-to spot for many residents. Despite the higher prices, the consistent excellence of the food, friendly service, and inviting atmosphere keep customers coming back. The menu includes a build-your-own ramen option, which may not appeal to everyone, but the ability to make every soup vegetarian is a nice feature for plant-based eaters. The broth is described as thick and creamy, with Japanese roast pork served instead of chashu. While not the most traditional ramen joint, Chuko offers delicious options like garlic ramen, salt and pepper chicken, and chili soy wings that keep customers returning for more. Overall, the food is delicious, the service is attentive, and the restaurant has a pleasant vibe that attracts both locals and visitors.

Went out for mother's day with my son, my daughter-in-law and the two grandkids. Found the restaurant on the OpenTable App. The dishes was inventive and surprising (even the rice balls! , the service was accommodating, and the bill was more than reasonable. Will be back!
I really want ramen. This simple request by my fiance unfortunately led us to a disaster of a meal. After attempting to try Chuko Ramen and being told the wait was an hour and a half, we needed a different plan. The host at Chuko suggested Bar Chuko down the street if we didn 't want to wait. It makes you wonder why their sister restaurant doesn 't have any wait, yet it 's a 90 minute wait for a bowl of noodles. Well I have the answer! The food at Bar Chuko is simply not very good. We started with wings because how could someone mess up wings? Well, these wings were so fatty that our finished plate look as if we barely even tried eating them. We tried! I got the tuna tartare rice bowl for $19. In my head I figured a rice bowl for $19 (their most expensive on the menu) would be delicious. Well I was wrong. It came out and basically looked like a deconstructed spicy tuna roll in a bowl. The rice was plain and room temperature, the tuna was just a mushy pile of overly-mayonnaised spicy tuna salad, and the couple pieces of seaweed left a lot to be desired. I was not pleased. My fiance ordered...wait for it...Ramen! They do have a ramen option on the menu, and you would think, being owned by the same folks, that this would be the same recipe, and a great way to not have to wait in line for it. Well, I sure hope it 's not the same. If it is, those people are insane for waiting 90 minutes to eat it. We have made better ramen at home using the $0.50 packs from the corner store. It didn 't help that the two guys at our communal table kept taking turns going to the men 's room to get high. I can 't blame the restaurant for their actions, but you should be ready to sit at a table with strangers, and you never know who you 'll get to deal with. So, if you are looking for an alternative to waiting for ramen, I would not recommend Bar Chuko. There are so many places on Vanderbilt without a wait, I 'm sure you 'll find something you love.
The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. We tried a few of their cocktails which were delicious and generous. The food was also delicious. We had a few small plates, then a ground pork rice bowl and a chicken bowl ramen. Everything was perfect. Two cocktails, 2 glasses of wine, 2 small plates, 2 of their larger plates. Under $100.
Bar Chuko is one of my few go to restaurants in my neighborhood. The food is consistently excellent, the service friendly yet unobtrusive, and the space itself inviting whether a crowded or sparser evening. Most highly recommended!
I came in with my husband and our friend who used to live in Tokyo and he was very impressed with the quality of food, service and drinks. The staff is always friendly and food is perfect! I highly recommend to my friends who live in other neighborhoods to come in and try. Just make sure you have a reservation because the place is small and gets crowded quickly, but it's so worth the wait!

Really good bowl of sesame garlic ramen. Enjoyed the pork buns but could have gone without the spicy pickles. Plenty of seating for groups which seemed full when we showed up but it was just the two of us and we sat right away. Good vibes from our waiter who seemed to be still warming up for the evening. Bummed my ginger ale was just a 4$ can of Canada Dry.
Definitely worth a trip, you will really enjoy the ramen. The pork is incredibly tender, and if you're like me you should order the extra noodles. You will need them. The only comment I have is that the bowl could be more full at the initial service.Food: 4/5
Chuko is such a vibe with plenty of seating. Although it has a small menu, they have a wonderful option of ramens to choose from. We have chosen to get the Spicy Miso Ramen a try. The broth of blended miso paste, and chili peppers gave it a bold flavor that was both spicy and salty. The noodles were thin, curly, and tasty absorbing the flavors of the broth. The overall taste of spicy miso ramen is satisfying and warming.
Really good ramen! You can tell the noodles are handmade. Probably one of my favorite ramen places in Brooklyn!
OMG this was freaking awesomely good!!!! Ordered this from Wonder and I'm glad that I did. This hit the spot for real, some of the best Ramen I've had all year!! I got the Chuko Favorite Ramen, because it included a little of everything and that's the best way to taste a little of everything in one sitting. Flavor on top of flavor, wholesomely delicious and satisfying. This consists of a sesame pork broth with pork belly and spicy ground pork, bamboo shoots, mushrooms, a soft egg, scallion, nori (seaweed), and rayu (chile oil) on the side. That heat was beautiful. I also got the tasty Pork and Shrimp Gyoza, wish I had ordered two of them. You get five per order. These are Pan seared so they're crispy on one side, tender on the other. These traditional dumplings are filled with pork and shrimp and served with a spicy dipping sauce. I tore through them and drank up that good sauce. Overall, I think I found my new favorite!!

Delicious pork buns and ramen, great service with 80's music playing in the background can't be beat!
Outstanding service and delicious food. Loved how warm, friendly, and attentive the staff were. Highlight was the brussel sprouts, crispy and super tasty!
Chuko is how the BK hipster says ramen. It's a real neighborhood staple for prospect heights. Sure the price is a tad bit high but the service, beer selection and food is top notch. It's not the most traditional ramen joint but it's well worth it. I would recommend it to anyone.
Tasty ramen, would definitely recommend getting the soy egg some protein as add-ons though
Charming and unpretentious ramen spot in a trendy area of Brooklyn, ideal for a date night! Their ramen bowls are highly customizable, which is great for someone like me who can be a bit particular about my choices. I suggest adding nori, a hardboiled egg, scallions, and chili sauce to any bowl you try!

Really salty, but added some honey turned it into a nice savory dish.
Got the salt and pepper wings, pork bun, tots, and Miso Ramen and everything was excellent. Small nitpick wish the ramen was hotter but you can just warm the broth up more in the micro before combining with toppings. Solid A
The food is delicious, delivered on time, and easy to prepare at home. The salt and pepper wings are fantastic, and both the Miso Ramen and Sesame Garlic Ramen are incredibly flavorful and satisfying. Be sure to get the garlic chili oil—it's the best!
Everything tasted fantastic, and the presentation was impressive, even though it was a delivery order. The chili soy wings were delicious, and the Miso Ramen was packed with flavor. This has definitely become my new favorite ramen spot!
I'm writing this review based on the food I received through delivery. If you dine in at the restaurant, you'll get a proper ramen that's quite delicious. However, the Sesame Garlic Ramen and Kimchi Ramen I ordered for delivery were bland and had a strange plastic smell. They seemed to be prepped for delivery, but I have no idea how long they had been sitting out. We really wanted to enjoy them, but they were so disappointing that we couldn't even finish our meals. I definitely wouldn't order from there again.

Chuko is a charming restaurant located on a corner of Atlantic Avenue in Crown Heights. The atmosphere is pleasant, with an open kitchen that enhances the dining experience. However, the decor could use some improvement. The service was attentive and courteous. The food was generally of good quality, but it didn’t truly impress me. The crispy Brussels sprouts with fish sauce and peanuts were delicious, and while the ramen had well-seasoned elements, the broth could use a bit more flavor, in my opinion. Additionally, they might want to consider adding a small dessert menu.
The service was excellent! However, the build-your-own menu feels somewhat unusual for a ramen restaurant. The dishes are a bit bland in appearance and lack excitement. It’s a bonus that every soup can be made vegetarian, catering to plant-based diners, but the soup itself isn’t particularly flavorful. The atmosphere is lovely and very inviting for guests. Given the nature of the menu, it ends up being quite pricey for what it offers, and I didn’t expect to spend that much.
This is my favorite ramen place. I've been coming here for years, and it's my preferred spot for solo dining. The staff is always attentive, and the ramen is consistently delicious. The buns and Brussels sprouts are fantastic additions to the meal. Occasionally, I even channel my inner Naruto and order two bowls because it’s simply that good. While there can be a long wait at times, there are plenty of nearby bars where you can grab a drink while you wait for a table or a seat at the bar.

The broth was decent, and the pork was quite good. However, the spicy elements were neither spicy nor particularly interesting. The fresh vegetables had a nice touch reminiscent of Korean cuisine.
