Came on Friday and got served very quickly! Got sangria for a drink and it was a good balance of sweet yet strong as well. The food was all delicious with huge portions. Definitely recommend the ceviche! The empanada was the only thing I might not order again but all the other items were delicious! View all feedback.
What Victor H doesn't like about Chimu Peruvian Cuisine:
Came here during Covid times. Ordered for takeout and the food portion was small compared to other Peruvian restaurants. The food is also more expensive than other Peruvian restaurants. The food quality was OK I ordered: Yucca: it was fresh and well made Empanadas: it was alright. I had better elsewhere Anticuchos: It wasn't hearts. I was internals. It was chewy and not digestable. Not really up to its standards Jale... View all feedback.
This place is amazing! My partner and I wanted to try Peruvian food for the first time. Turns out this place is a nice little walk from home. Everyone was super friendly and helpful. We took a table in the back patio area and it was super nice. There was a big family having a special occasion in a little offshoot of the patio. It was a hip atmosphere with nice airflow and sun. There was mural art on the wall and other decor. And music playing. I ordered a chicha morada, a Peruvian corn punch (non-alcoholic). It was similar to sorrel. It is lightly fruity and a little spicy--very refreshing. My partner had a Peruvian beer which was also quite nice. We had Causa de Camarones as an appetizer. What a treat! I will get this every time I come here, because it is unique. I would never make this at home! For mains, we ordered Ceviche Mixto Pescado a lo Macho. We didn't know what we were getting into! The Ceviche we had an idea what it might be like. The Pescado a lo Macho is described as Snapper in a Seafood Sauce. So I thought it would just have kind of a seafood sauce with a little minced seafood in it. But no! I got a snapper fillet with a bunch of seafood on top, plus half a crab! The presentation was fabulous. The flavors delicious. The Pescado a lo Macho sauce was sooooo good. Like put it in your mouth, close your eyes and flutter your lids good. It was a little rich, so if you're sensitive to rich or heavy foods, you would definitely want to split this with someone and pair it with something acidy or gingery. The portions were really generous for the price. We are no slouches at the dinner table! But we ended up taking half of it home. I think next time we will have 1 appetizer and 1 entree--if we can agree on the entree! :P The service was beyond expectation. My water glass was always full, napkins and forks replaced immediately, someone was always there if I looked like I might want something--but they also didn't hover. Everyone was warm and friendly. Perfect date night, delicious dinner. I HIGHLY recommend you check it out.
I wasn't sure about this place but it was wonderful. Our waitress was amazing. The drinks were strong and good. I got the steak definitely will be back.
I came here for dinner on a Wednesday night with a group of 4 people. They take your temperature and you leave your contact information during COVID-19 times. The tables were spread out and clean. We ordered the Ceviche Mixto, the Tallarin Verde con Skirt Steak (steak with spaghetti in basil sauce), the Lomo Saltado (sauteed beef with fries), the Arroz Chaufa de Carne (fried rice with meat), and the maduros (sweet plantains) side. The portions were large and the prices were decent. My favorite dish was the Tallarin Verde con Skirt Steak. The steak was cooked perfectly and the basil sauce was delicious. The ceviche was fresh and delicious as well. There were mussels, fish, and crab which was a great variety of seafood. Service was very friendly and fast. I would definitely come back and try their other dishes.
So I have had Chimu on my Yelp Bookmark for a quite a long time now and there just never seemed to be an ideal time to make my visit here. It was a nice frigid Sunday, and I decided to sojourn here for a solo dinner. I figure with the weather and day of the week it would be smooth sailing.~sigh~Plot twist, read on. I arrived easily around 545pm, the place wasn 't busy/crowded (see photo), I was seated fast. The man gave me menus, water and type of corn thingy. Well I guess that 's where the service ended. I was seated plain as day in the walkway area, even across the bar so the bartender see 's me, by myself. TWELVE MINUTES (12) later, NO ONE has come to my table to even ask me what i want to drink. I was surpised, getting pissed and annoyed. Like, YELLO!!!? Anyone work here? There were 2 servers walking back and forth, back and forth...attending to other guests. Not ONCE did they even look my way/ask to serve me. They were acting like I was the demon in Birdbox , and they couldn 't look my way. Again, look at the photo I took from my vantage point, this place wasn 't bumping and sooo busy! Sure, I could have flagged them down...but is that how it works now? You beg for service? And I was curious to test them, to see how long really would I sit here and be ignored. Again, I am dining alone so yes 12 mins seems like eternity since I am by myself. Even if i was with a guest busy in mid chatter, we would still notice that wow...no one came to even get our drinks? At this point, I contemplated just getting my coat and walking out. But I didn 't want to be pre mature. I decided to Yelp other restaurants nearby (it 's too cold to be wandering). Report this extraordinary wait time to the manager, if on site. Leave. It was during my Yelping that I coincidentally looked up and I saw a THIRD waiter come up and tap the waitress, and he pointed at me. Only then did she actually take out her pen and paper and came promptly over like she never saw me before! Are these people for real? No apology. Not a damn word of acknowledgement that I have been here in plain sight for 15mins without service. At this point, I don ' memorized the whole menu. She took my order I Had the purple corn drink which was actually tasty The avocado stuffed with shrimp well stuffed. The Fried Snapper with rice and plaintain it was ok the sauce was somehow too creamy for me. I took half the food home because it was a huge entree. I paid my bill and decided to walk to the big ol ' bakery on Bedford for dessert (best decision of the night btw). Initially I was going to give this a 3 star review. But ladies and gents, it just got 100% worse. It 's 6am the next day and I woke up thinking about my experience at Chimu only to realize... I WAS ROBBED!!!! THEY DID NOT SERVE ME MY SWEET PLANTAINS! Lawd have mercy at the horror of my realization. Was I robbed? Was I overcharged? Was this false advertising? Ladies and gentleman, good people of the Yelp community do you see ANY plantains on my table in my pictures? Oh My goodness gracious. This kind of treachery shall not pass! No sir! A reason I went for this fried fish was the allure of the plantains. So I was overcharged because I was served an incomplete meal. I was prob to full of the large dose of ignoration they served me, I didn 't notice it right then. Shame, shame, shame. No darn sweet plantains, what was the point of this meal then? My fingers are soo close to clicking this a 1 star review/visit.
In love in love in love. Everything was excellent. It was my friend bday and I wanted to treat her to a nice meal. Once we walked in we were immediately seated. We ordered the calamari- a must! It was so tender but crispy on the outside that I just couldnt get enough. On top on that the onion mix it came with had a delightful tangy spicy flavor which I appreciated. The mussels was so flavorful. This place blew me away no lie. For our main course we ordered a surf and turf (which wasn't on the menu but thanks to yelp I knew that they do it) and chicken fried rice and also the snapper meal (sorry I dont remember the name but it was the whole snapper) absolutely nothing disappointed us here. The bed of spaghetti the skirt steak laid on was tasty. That steak was so juicy my mouth is still watering from it. The lobster was juicy. No looking back on yelp I see others were given butter for their lobster. I was happy with mine just so. This was my first time trying Peruvian food and 1000% wont be my last. It was amazing. They even came out and everyone in the restaurant sang happy birthday to my friend. The tres leches cake made me smile. I cant get over this place. Give it a try The waiter was looking at us like where the hell the 2 of you plan on putting all this food. They actually joined another table next to us to put all the food lol
