We had reservations for dinner on Saturday evening, but when we arrived, we found out that the restaurant was closed temporarily for renovation due to issues with their US visas. It would have been helpful if Open Table had updated their website to reflect this closure, as it would have saved us a lot of time and inconvenience.
Unfortunately, the restaurant had closed its brunch service for the day, after being in business for just one year. The owners have returned to Denmark.
The cocktails at The Hans Christian Anderson Themes were delicious (I tried the Little Match Girl and it was really fun). The food was fresh and seasonal. The atmosphere was trendy, relaxed and lively. My friends and I had a great time catching up and laughing. Our server Vik was excellent, he spoke four languages and made sure we were happy, even though they ran out of cod for my original entree order. The Danish food was mouthwatering and this restaurant is a hidden gem. The fish, burgers, cocktails and pastries were all fantastic. An added bonus is that if you are part of the Delta Skymiles Dining program, you can earn extra miles by dining here.
Bornholm is a beautiful place to meet a friend for a drink in the garden. The homemade laks, herring and bread are beautiful. The main dishes were good, but not spectacular. The staff is friendly, but need some training to announce the Danish menu. Also, they should let customers know that the kitchen is from a certain item before we let ourselves decide (we ordered 3 things that were no longer on the menu). The back garden has an entertaining atmosphere, but we had to go because there were a few mice running around our feet, provided there was a big rainstorm and we were in the garden, but the mice were too much for one of our guests. The restaurant inside lacks charm and warmth, but the garden is a jewel.
