Stopped in during subday trivia night (unknowingly) but they still had a table left for us. Despite being packed, service was super fast ... with a small catch. It's all self-ordered via Toast and a qr code/website. Order each thing as you want it (drinks, then app, then mains when ready). Cash payments or custom orders have to be made at the bar. Seems weird to tip 20% when they don't actually take orders. That aside,... View all feedback.
What ESB NYC doesn't like about Black Forest Brooklyn:
This isn't the spot for those who are counting calories or watching their cholesterol. I indulged in the flatbread topped with bacon and caramelized onions, which was quite heavy. The cheese sausage was tasty but also rich. The fries were delicious. It's more of a casual place to grab a beer and some snacks with friends. The food is fantastic, and the beer selection is enjoyable. The owner is incredibly friendly. We tried the Impossible burger with fries and the Wurstplatte. The kale salad was especially delicious, savory, and slightly spicy. My only downside is that it can be quite pricey; lunch for three came to $100, and we ordered reasonably—3 beers, a Wurstplatte shared between two people, and one veggie burger. Overall, I would definitely come back for the wonderful atmosphere and cozy, unique setting.
I visited this restaurant with a big group of friends, and it’s definitely a great spot for large gatherings. Everyone enjoyed the beer, and I personally had the grapefruit beer, which was light and refreshing. The schnitzel was tasty, but some of the other dishes we ordered, like the waffles, fries, and omelettes, were just average. Opinions on the sausages varied among our group.
Delicious food! The atmosphere is simple, cozy, and inviting. The staff was very friendly. I will definitely return!
The food was just average. The smashed potatoes with garlic were bland, and the sauerkraut lacked flavor. However, the bratwursts were quite good. My partner received a dish she didn't order, and surprisingly, the staff didn't understand the simple German word "danke." On a positive note, the atmosphere was nice!
