Sofra
4.5 / 5 (311 reviews)

Description

Sofra offers a mixed dining experience characterized by an elegant atmosphere and the promise of Greek and Albanian cuisine. While some patrons rave about the flavorful dishes, like hummus and lemon potatoes, others express disappointment at the execution, citing overcooked proteins and a lack of seasoning. Service generally receives praise, contributing to the restaurant's appealing vibe. However, a few guests have noted issues with order accuracy and pricing transparency. Despite these inconsistencies, many believe Sofra remains a worthwhile visit, especially for those seeking a unique culinary experience in the Bronx, though careful menu selection is advised.

I had heard positive things about this restaurant, so I thought, why not give it a try? When I walked in, I noticed that it was empty, which should have been a red flag for me. The menu was quite limited and basic, especially given the prices they were charging. To make matters worse, I realized they overcharged me. This experience has definitely opened my eyes, and I won't be returning. Be sure to double-check your bank statements a few days later!

The saganaki was tasty, but the chicken paidakia was just plain grilled chicken served with regular French fries and ketchup. There was no sauce or seasoning, and the chicken was dry and overcooked. I could have easily found a similar dish, or possibly even a better one, at a typical diner for half the price. Additionally, I was charged $6 for a glass of water.

Honestly it's only 3 stars for that bomb a pita bread otherwise I'd give it a one. The lamb was extremely over cooked and not cut properly which probably was why it was also extremely difficult to chew and it had absolutely zero seasoning. Also do not absolutely do not under any circumstances get the calamari it's dreadful.

The food we received was completely wrong, cold, and lacked flavor. We ordered two dinners totaling around $85, but the presentation was disappointing and the taste even worse. My boyfriend is Albanian and I am American Greek, so we were excited to try Sofra since it advertises Greek and Albanian cuisine. Sadly, we were both very let down. If you're looking for good Middle Eastern dishes, I recommend Cakor on Belmont Ave, Gurra Cafe, Cka ka Quello, and for takeout, Balkan Place on Lydig. For authentic Greek food with great service and atmosphere, head to Astoria, Queens.

Absolutely fantastic—delicious food and completely satisfying. The prices were fair, the food was outstanding, and the atmosphere was perfect. The wine pour was a bit disappointing, but the wine itself was good. I’d give five stars if not for the small pour, but everything else was wonderful. My friend and I had an amazing time. The noise level was comfortable, and the service was excellent. She enjoyed the Albanian burger, and I had the gyro—both were incredibly tasty with generous portions. I’m definitely going back.
