this place is simply unbelievable with the most friendly owners! we had the most tasty Scottish breakfast in the morning, which was full of different flavors (the vegan heggis and tofu dishes were our favorites.) everything was made home, even the haggis and kartoffels! I had such a fantastic experience at this restaurant that I almost don't want to share it with anyone else so I can keep it to myself! The location was stunning, right next to the sea with a beautiful beach just a short walk away. The house itself was charming and the accommodations were incredibly comfortable. I particularly loved the decor in the main bedroom. The addition of the sitting room was a great touch, providing a relaxing space to unwind after a busy day. It also came in handy when we couldn't find a lunch spot - we could pick up some items from the shop and enjoy them there. The breakfast was exceptional, with fresh bread and homemade granola being particular highlights. The homemade treats in the afternoon were a delightful touch, with the Bakewell cupcake being a standout. Gregor and Ruth were incredibly welcoming and friendly, even checking in to make sure we had safely made it after a ferry mishap. And a special shoutout to Bonnie, who was an absolute sweetheart and provided plenty of affectionate pets.
My partner and I were given a voucher to stay at Ferghan Mhor by a relative, and had never visited Arran before. The B&B is very comfortable and extremely quiet. We enjoyed the cooked breakfast and the pancakes very much and it was especially nice to have some produce from their own garden. The owners are friendly but not intrusive and let you get on with your own thing which I appreciated a lot. At Sannox we saw oyster catchers, curlews and seals at the beach. We also went walking up to Glen Sannox which was beautiful and full of goldcrests, swallows and butterflies and also wild orchids. We successfully managed to do the whole trip by bus, but found this to be quite limiting in terms of how far around the island we could get. If you have the option to bring a car or even bikes then I would recommend doing so. Some requests I would make would be: some facial tissues in the room, a bedside table that is flat (currently there is an angled tree stump which can't hold anything), and the option of mushrooms at breakfast! Things I really liked were: the organic soap and shampoo bars, the mid-day snack, the warm welcome. We hope to be back soon. Thank you! Updated from previous review on 2019-08-03
This place is ideal for a short or long holiday on Arran. The location is perfect, offering a peaceful setting next to a beautiful beach and at the starting point of many of the best coastal and mountain hikes on the island. The breakfast they serve is delicious, with options like a Scottish fry-up and pancakes. The portions are generous and will keep you satisfied for a good part of the day. The rooms are small but cozy, with just enough space for a double bed, small fridge, and a seating area for making tea (kettle and tea bags are provided in each room, and they even bring you cake daily). The shared bathroom might bother some people, but I didn't mind at all. The hosts at Ferghan Mhor are friendly and helpful, offering great recommendations for activities on the island. Arran is very vegan-friendly and makes for a perfect weekend getaway or longer holiday destination.
This restaurant is absolutely amazing with incredibly friendly owners! We enjoyed a scrumptious cooked Scottish breakfast in the morning, filled with a variety of flavors (our favorites were the vegan haggis and tofu scramble). Everything was homemade, even the haggis and potato scones! If you're not a fan of savory breakfasts, there are also options like pancakes and a counter with fruit, cereals, and homemade granola (which was delicious - they even accommodated our almond allergy). Our evening treat, an empire biscuit, was also delectable, and there's plenty of tea in the room. We can't recommend this place enough. It's peaceful and beautiful, and you'll likely have an amazing time. We loved the personal touches at the B&B, with well-chosen vintage-style furniture.
This place was so good I want to tell everyone, but no one else so I can keep it secret! the location was nice, right at the sea with a beautiful beach just a short walk away. the house was very beautiful and the celebrity so comfortable. I loved the decoration of the master bedroom! the addition of the living room was great and meant that we had to cool out somewhere at the end of a long day. it was also practical if we could not find somewhere to lunch so that we could get pieces and boobs from the load and had to eat somewhere. the breakfast was great, we loved the fresh bread and homemade granola. we also enjoyed the homemade tasty eggs every afternoon the bakewell cupcake was to die. gregor and ruth were so friendly and welcoming, even to check, we would have managed to get away well after the ferry drama. special mention to bonnie who was a very good girl and gave good pats.
