Skip. Nothing like the original Candle 79. Low quality food prepared by an amateur cook. The hostess who was also the bartender and waitress did her best to provide good service and was the only positive about the dining experience. Unfortunately the cocktails were not good, the whole place smelled like frying from cooking oil, and the ambiance was depressing. Having been to previous versions of Candle restaurants, we are glad they reopened. Their menu is slightly different, but still plant-based. We love this restaurant

I ate many meals at Candle Cafe and Candle 79 and loved those restaurants. Candle on 28th Street has proven to be a disappointment. The staff and the atmosphere are great. But while the kitchen brings back all the menu favorites, they now prepare most of those dishes with different ingredients which alters their taste. To new diners this should not be a problem but it is for me and my guest. We wanted so much for this place to succeed and still do but we won’t be back. Two months later and inspite of myself we came back. And I am glad that we did. We loved the place this time. The ravioli is one of the best appetizers available today. But then everything from the service to the appetizers, entreés and dessert to the decor was just right. We are very happy to rejoin the fans of Candle 28 and are rooting for their success.
