One of the best restaurants in the heights, as soon as you walk in you feel the great atmosphere of the employees and the place. Food and Drinks are tremendously delicious. It’s a must to visit…. THE HANGER STEAK IS THE BEST
Very cute neighborhood place with nice staff.(pictures attached)Beef and mushroom empanadas were great.Shrimp cevicheQueso fundido
I found this place by chance and I’m so glad I did! Went with some friends on a Saturday night just because they had live music and now this is our go to place. The drinks are delicious and the food is even better! I’ve had the empanadas, mofonguitos, canave burger and canave chimi, the steak and the flautas and I just cant get enough of them. Brought my brother the other day and now he is looking forward to go back. Prices I think are reasonable because of the quality of everything they serve. Great atmosphere and the staff is amazing!
Fabulous post museum lunch. Cold beer and creative cuisine. Latin American a mix of Caribbean and Mexican flavors. Great green plantains croquetas; loved the empanadas (pastelillos in Puerto Rico); and great queso fundido. Everything fresh. The mofonguito was super soft; incredible Criollo sauce! Excellent cilantro rice beans too. Junior, our server, and the whole team were friendly. Good music too. We'll be back...Vegetarian options: Mushroom empanadas. Rice beans. Several other veg options.
Cañave is a hidden gem in the heart of Dyckman, a small and unassuming restaurant that packs a big punch when it comes to flavor and authenticity. From the moment you step inside, you know you're in for a treat – the aroma of herbs and spices fills the air, and the friendly, welcoming staff make you feel like family. The menu at Cañave is a celebration of Dominican cuisine, with a focus on traditional dishes made with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. The mofongo, in particular, is a standout – a mound of mashed plantains that are crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, filled with savory meats or seafood and topped with a garlicky sauce. And the pastelitos – flaky, golden pastries filled with savory beef, chicken, or cheese – are a perfect snack or appetizer. But it's not just the food that makes Cañave special – it's the sense of community and warmth that permeates every aspect of the restaurant. The walls are decorated with vibrant, colorful murals that pay homage to the history and culture of the Dominican Republic, and the staff are happy to share stories and recommendations for dishes to try. It's the kind of place where you can sit back, relax, and savor the flavors of home-cooked food made with love and care. And the drinks – oh, the drinks! The mojitos are expertly crafted with fresh mint and just the right amount of rum, while the Presidente beer is the perfect accompaniment to the savory flavors of the food. And for something a little more adventurous, the mamajuana – a potent blend of rum, red wine, honey, and herbs – is a must-try.In the end, Cañave is more than just a restaurant – it's a place where you can experience the warmth and richness of Dominican culture, and savor the flavors of home-cooked food made with love and care. It's a place where you can feel like part of a community, and where the passion and pride of the staff shine through in every dish. If you're looking for a taste of the Dominican Republic in the heart of Dyckman, Cañave is a must-visit.
