New Shanghai - Brisbane

I've been wanting to try this well reviewed restaurant for a long time. I've heard stories of their legendary dumplings and uber cool atmosphere. However, I was disappointed by my own experience.  The first problem was likely our own. I went here with B, it really should have been a larger group. All the serves of dumpling are quite large (6+ pieces) so as a couple there is only so much belly space so you end up only trying a few dishes.  The next problems were the restaurant's. We tried a few dishes and none were impressive. The pot stickers were very doughy, there was no broth in them, the filling was lacklustre. The spring onion pancakes were mostly flour, there were minimal no spring onions in them. They were just boring doughy pancakes.  The pork belly steamed buns were really unbalanced, a huge bun (and not the bun I expected) which two tiny pieces of pork belly with some hoisin sauce and a slice of cucumber. The pork and chive dumplings were not bad, the filling was quite tasty, but the dough was way too thick and they looked like dumplings I would have made myself. There were no beauty prizes being awarded that day.  Service was fine, the atmosphere and decor was very cool, but the food was sub par.  Also, I didn't like that there is no bowl to mix your soy and vinegar.

I've been here before and it wasn't great. But I thought I'd give it another try. First of all, I waited 5 minutes till someone saw my at the desk to be seated and then made me wait even longer. Even though there were plenty of tables available. Staff are rude and disinterested. I ordered lukewarm and sour soup and tasteless yangchou fried rice or so they must've heard me say that. In that case it was perfect. My soup was "perfectly" lukewarm and my rice perfectly tasteless. I asked for a glass of water 3 times. $17.00 not well spent, actually $18.00, because they charge a dollar for EFTPOS transactions. It surprises me how busy this place is during lunch, because I don't see it.

The food was amazing and definitely decently priced, no wonder there's a Lin every time I walk past. I loved the soup dumplings and fried pan dumplings too, I need to go back!! I even left my backpack there and they kept it for me until I came back

My first visit to the New Shanghai franchise and I had a good experience but not for the ones who are in a hurry. +'ves Ambience and service was great. I wanted to try a seafood dish and was pleasantly surprised by the taste of the Shanghai Stir Fry Seafood noodle. Dish was served in good time -'ves Not for the ones who are in a hurry. Had to queue for 20 mins to sit down A bit pricy Quantity not worth the price Would defo go again to try different dishes
