Dined here a few years ago not long after they first opened. It was very good then and now despite shortly closing it's just as good as it ever was. The staff were tremendous and the food was exceptional too. Fixed menu was super and we chose the French bubbles which just goes with everything. View all feedback.
What John Saad doesn't like about Tani Eat & Drink:
My 4 sisters and I dined there last night for my 60th birthday. I have had many degustation meals before and this was the worst. The 5 of us had to share between two plates in the centre of our table. We were never given a menu or a choice. Three sisters ate only 2 courses which were very average, only 2 ate the wallaby which was very rich. My stomach was grumbling all night and I still feel sick today. I'm not sure... We would come back because the food, service and sake pairings are spot on. This Australian restaurant is Japanese inspired and has a nice balance of...
Good menu selection, and quality tap beers. I was advised when ordering that meals are a little small which was handy as I was rather hungry after a long...
Beautiful Japanese-influnenced modern Australian fusion cuisine. Besides a decent list of wines and drinks, the sake offering must be the widest in this...
We dined at Tani in the final week it was open and thoroughly enjoyed the fixed price degustation menu. The food was an amazing mixture of flavours, techniques and ingredients. A number that we had not tried before eg Wallaby tartare. The staff were knowledgeable and helpful and it was good that the tables were not crammed together to fit more in - I'm sure that they had to turn many booking away but they knew how many the wait and kitchen staff could deal with to provide a very good quality of food and service. They have a high standard to maintain in the new arrangement as a gin distillery with some food. However, we understand from the waiter told us about their new venture in response to our questions that their other restaurant (at Mt Hotham I think he said) will continue to offer high quality dining - hopefully it is as good as what we experienced at Tani.
We visited on the second last night and had an amazing degustation. The staff, food and ambience was wonderful. Such a pity it's now closed. Those who created this real asset for Bright are apparently moving on to greener pastures.
