Was Throbisha at The Ship a mag?
We walked to the pub on Saturday with two young children, the staff were friendly, the food was excellent and we were made to feel very welcome. We shall be returning very soon for another home-made beef and Guinness pie! View all feedback.
What David D dislikes about The Ship:
I went to this restaurant for Sunday lunch and ordered roast beef, requesting it to be cooked rare. The waitress informed me it would be served rare. However, a waiter brought out the meat well done. When we mentioned the error, he returned to the kitchen and brought back the same overcooked meat, stating that was all they had. An older man appeared and blamed the young waiter for the mistake. Frustrated by the lack of concern for our order, we decided to leave without any further offerings. This was the worst pub experience I have ever had. Do not visit this establishment with such uncaring staff attitudes towards customers.

Kate was only person behind the bar and serving tables with 22 people in. Food was excellent though portions were very large. Unusually Pate and Prawn Cocktail was served with plenty of toast and bread and butter. Again main courses were large and very tasty. Paul is an accomplished chef. Kate did a brilliant job of managing bar and tables.
We as a group thought a trip to the green and lunch at the Ship on Sunday sounded a great idea, a stop off at Halstead Cricket Club to attend the local beer festival on the way seemed a good idea as well, arriving at the Ship around 1.30, the manager was very friendly from the outset and made sure that all was well for the five of us, even giving a sample of red wine before ordering, a great thing to do, as we all know that after ordering a bottle and finding it not quite to your taste means not enjoying it at the table. Our food was lovely and plentiful, no rush to use the table again, and in my opinion a place to visit again and I will surely do so, I would recommend booking as it was busy, but do try as it will be worth it.
