The food at this restaurant is amazing and the ambiance is perfect for a country pub. Even my 85-year-old mom agrees, saying that the fish and chips are the best she's ever had! View all feedback.
What Trip585690 doesn't like about The Half Moon Pub:
Six of us arrived after a long hot walk around the countryside. My friends know their beer and were well pleased. Lunch from a comprehensive menu was delicious. Well cooked well presented. We were told that the landlady was doing the cooking and the landlord doing the washing up. Nice to know who is in charge. Smashing pub in a delightful setting. View all feedback.
I was looking for somewhere local for my wife and I to visit and have a couple of drinks. By total luck, my research found this wonderful pub. It, along with the village it is in are the absolute quintessential country setting we dream of finding. There is an excellent selection of wines, beers and spirits to choose from. After making our choices, we could not ignore the great range of home cooked food on offer. We chose the cheeseboard to share and then a couple of deserts. The selection of cheese was not just out of the fridge and portions very generous. The wonderfully fresh and trimmed celery sticks along with ample bread and excellent biscuits made this a sumptuous feast which we both enjoyed. The apple and blueberry crumble along with the sticky toffee pudding were both a total delight. We will be back very soon to sample more of the great food on offer here. If you are looking for that chocolate box representation of a great English village pub with thatched roof and olde world interior, then pay the Half Moon a visit.
The food was good especially the blackberry and apple crumble, although it was slightly expensive. I had the house red to go with my meal. Service was as good as it should be, however the table was badly positioned. We were a party of ten and not everybody could leave the table unless one or two people moved first. My conclusion this was an ok experience but there are several others I would choose first.
The carpark is not over large but we found a spare with ease, once inside the bar was happily full yet we were greeted by the bar staff, we had booked a table, which was checked and we where shown ot the table. our drinks arrived quickly with out menus, we placed our food order, most tables were in use so we had expected a delay but the food arrived in good time, and it was nicely cooked, the chef rely knows how to cook a good Tee Bone. Good at the table service with a smile.
The food was nice but the service was appalling they forgot we ordered starters so they brought the mains out so when questioned about starters they said we could have the starters with the main meal they didnt bring over condiments over they didnt ask if the meal was ok half way through i thought it was all homecooked as stated but the mash potato was packet mash
Taken here for an evening meal by friends we were staying overnight with, lovely country pub, lovely atmosphere, great staff, and fantastic food.Hopefully we will get back sometime. Brilliant.
