Menu
A comprehensive menu of Half Moon from Braintree featuring all 55 dishes and drinks can be found here on the menu.
The restaurant offers good food, with standout items like the blackberry and apple crumble. Some find it slightly expensive, but the house red is a good choice. Service is solid, although table positioning can be problematic for larger groups. Overall, the experience is decent, but there are better options available. Friendly staff make for a welcoming atmosphere, even accommodating a group arriving after a ride. The fresh, home-cooked food receives high praise. While the service can be lacking at times, the meals are delicious and well-presented. Situated in a perfect spot, this pub offers a nice selection of food with friendly service. A Sunday roast was a hit, served quickly and hot with friendly staff. The garlic mushroom starter is highly recommended. The overall cost is pleasantly surprising. A return visit is guaranteed.

I highly recommend this charming country pub. We called ahead 15 minutes before our arrival to ensure they had a table, and they kindly reserved one for us. We ordered the sirloin steak, which comes with a peppercorn sauce, and when we inquired about swapping one for garlic butter sauce, they happily accommodated our request. The food was excellent, and the service was impeccable. We definitely want to return! View all feedback.
What a free dislikes about Half Moon:
"This restaurant is not dog-friendly, as dogs are not allowed inside. As for the food, I would rate it a 3 out of 5. The service, however, was disappointing and deserves a rating of 1. The atmosphere is also average, giving it a score of 3.".
I was looking for somewhere local for my wife and I to visit and have a couple of drinks. By total luck, my research found this wonderful pub. It, along with the village it is in are the absolute quintessential country setting we dream of finding. There is an excellent selection of wines, beers and spirits to choose from. After making our choices, we could not ignore the great range of home cooked food on offer. We chose the cheeseboard to share and then a couple of deserts. The selection of cheese was not just out of the fridge and portions very generous. The wonderfully fresh and trimmed celery sticks along with ample bread and excellent biscuits made this a sumptuous feast which we both enjoyed. The apple and blueberry crumble along with the sticky toffee pudding were both a total delight. We will be back very soon to sample more of the great food on offer here. If you are looking for that chocolate box representation of a great English village pub with thatched roof and olde world interior, then pay the Half Moon a visit.
We were a party of four and our friends had booked a table for dinner. When they booked the member of staff had the courtesy and professionalism to advise that there would be a large party of diners and that it would be best if we could dine early evening rather than a 7.30pm slot. The table was booked for 6.45pm. On arrival we were greeted by friendly staff and shown to our table. The menu is on a large chalkboard in the bar. We opted for the stuffed chicken x 2, and 2 x suet puddings. Delicious, wonderful favours and well presented. We managed a sticky toffee pudding, chocolate brownie and a scoop of stem ginger ice cream. Again couldn't fault these. Coffees were not great though and we did mention this to the staff, but I've still given a 5 star rating because everything else was perfect at this very quaint, cosy, traditional pub. Hoping to return again soon.
The food was good especially the blackberry and apple crumble, although it was slightly expensive. I had the house red to go with my meal. Service was as good as it should be, however the table was badly positioned. We were a party of ten and not everybody could leave the table unless one or two people moved first. My conclusion this was an ok experience but there are several others I would choose first.
The food was nice but the service was appalling they forgot we ordered starters so they brought the mains out so when questioned about starters they said we could have the starters with the main meal they didnt bring over condiments over they didnt ask if the meal was ok half way through i thought it was all homecooked as stated but the mash potato was packet mash
This traditional English pub never fails. I have eaten the most delicious main course that I am sure Michelin star restaurants would be proud of! I have never been disappointed. Roll on the Christmas menu!
