tiplings is my favorite tea room in ilkley! it is a very cozy, friendly atmosphere. sit on shabby chic tables while they are buying all small gifts, they serve delicious food, thirsty coffee and do not forget to mention the amazing cake selection! the personal is beautiful and gives a high standard customer service! I couldn't recommend it anymore! View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Tiplings:
The cakes were delicious and the drinks were nice too. However, it was quite a small place and difficult to manoeuvre around, more so because of social distancing. The atmosphere and staff gave off an awkward vibe. The toilets were cordoned off and they said no when I asked if I could take my 3 year old niece to the toilet. Instead, we had to cut our time short and use the paid toilet facilities in the car park. View all feedback.

I visited this cafe with my daughter today and was totally underwhelmed by it’s cake, it’s staff and payment methods! Where we were seated, the paint and plaster were crumbling and bits were on the floor beside our seats. There were damp areas all over the upstairs area. There were also No bathroom facilities! When asked why the toilet door was taped off, a young girl said it was because there was no one to clean it. Surely, this is an infringement of hygiene standards to not have an area where customers can use the toilet and wash their hands. In somewhere that provides food, this is disgraceful! While trying to pay with contactless, the very brusque lady on the till said they only took cash. Nowhere in the cafe was this made obvious. In this present climate of reducing contact, particularly with ‘dirty’ money, this has to be a backward step. I would not recommend this establishment, until they improve their standards.
Called in for lunch, toasted sandwiches were very nice , drinks arrived speedily and the cakes were delicious with a good choice. However we sat inside downstairs and while we were waiting I was looking around and noticed it really is in need of a good dust. Cobwebs, covered in dust on the staircase, behind the cake stands on the dresser and above the dresser all along the wall. Surely at the moment cleanliness has to be one of the top priorities? My knife was not clean but I didn't use it so said nothing. Food was good service was good and good value but probably not be going back as not convinced it was clean enough.
Quaint fashioned tea room set over two floors. Wasn’t sure what to expect but my son and I ordered sandwiches and these were very well made, rather like finger sandwiches. They don’t accept card so it’s a good job I had cash! The lady running it was friendly and happily explained the COVID-19 rules. Strange times indeed!
Only visited these tea rooms on two occasions as we are not local to the area. The first time we came we sat outside in the summer.Having chosen what we wanted, we were told by the waitress on ordering that they didn't have any eggs, strange i thought, no explanation or apology. we also found out from someone else that they don't take debit cards, so good job i had some cash on me. went back again today and the same thing happened , told us as we were ordering that they didn't have any eggs today, again no explanation. why have them on the menu if they're not available every day and why don't you tell people before they decide what they're going to order so they don't have to make a quick on the spot decision when you come with the order pad. Also it would be helpful for it to say some where on the menu that you don't accept debit cards. the food was nice what we ate but for a tea room it would have been nice to have nice thin traditional china cups and saucers . its a little cramped downstairs and looks a little tired and grubby so unfortunately i wouldn't go back there again.
