However, it was quite a small place and difficult to manoeuvre around, more so because of social distancing. The atmosphere and staff gave off an awkward vibe. The toilets were cordoned off and they said no when I asked if I could take my 3 year old niece to the toilet. Instead, we had to cut our time short and use the paid toilet facilities in the car park.

Where we were seated, the paint and plaste... read more I visited this cafe with my daughter today and was totally underwhelmed by it’s cake, it’s staff and payment methods! Where we were seated, the paint and plaster were crumbling and bits were on the floor beside our seats. There were damp areas all over the upstairs area. There were also No bathroom facilities! When asked why the toilet door was taped off, a young girl said it was because there was no one to clean it. Surely, this is an infringement of hygiene standards to not have an area where customers can use the toilet and wash their hands. In somewhere that provides food, this is disgraceful! While trying to pay with contactless, the very brusque lady on the till said they only took cash. Nowhere in the cafe was this made obvious. In this present climate of reducing contact, particularly with ‘dirty’ money, this has to be a backward step. I would not recommend this establishment, until they improve their standards.

However we sat inside downstai... read more Called in for lunch, toasted sandwiches were very nice , drinks arrived speedily and the cakes were delicious with a good choice. However we sat inside downstairs and while we were waiting I was looking around and noticed it really is in need of a good dust. Cobwebs, covered in dust on the staircase, behind the cake stands on the dresser and above the dresser all along the wall. Surely at the moment cleanliness has to be one of the top priorities? My knife was not clean but I didn't use it so said nothing. Food was good service was good and good value but probably not be going back as not convinced it was clean enough.

The cakes are great too and I have noticed the scon... read more This is a super tea room and gift shop. My favourite for lunch here is the cheese and tuna toasted sandwich. The cakes are great too and I have noticed the scones and afternoon teas always seem very popular. Staff are mostly fairly young ladies who are always friendly and the owner herself is a very chatty and friendly lady. If you have a dog they are more than welcome they often get treated to a bowl of water and a bit of ham on the house and there are usually seats outside under a canopy should you turn up with a very muddy parson russell terrier.

My husband and I were looking forward to visiting Betty's, but the line was too long and we were short on time. We decided to try Tiplings instead, and despite the busy atmosphere, we were able to find a table upstairs. Unfortunately, the service was slow and our drinks were not up to standard. My daughter enjoyed her hot chocolate, but my latte was served almost cold. I regret not waiting in line for Betty's instead.
