I spent two nights at this restaurant over the weekend and visited on Sunday, April 10th, 2021. The service was excellent, and the room was even more beautiful than I had anticipated. The bed was incredibly comfortable. Kath and Charlie, who assisted us, were amazing and went above and beyond to make me, my girlfriend Chloe, and our dog Rocko feel welcome. We truly appreciate their help and hospitality. Thank you so... View all feedback.
What Sai M doesn't like about Churchills:
The drinks were enjoyable, and the food portions were generous and satisfactory. The bartender was friendly, which was a nice touch. However, our waiter seemed unaware of the soup of the day, and it took quite a while for us to place our order. Additionally, the restaurant manager appeared to be having a difficult day, which impacted the overall atmosphere. View all feedback.

This is a charming gastro pub with lovely interiors and plenty of outdoor seating. Our hen party chose this spot after dodging some overly enthusiastic Japanese tourists! The staff were incredibly accommodating, merging tables to fit our group and even politely asking other customers to give us some space. When the evening chill set in as the sun went down, they promptly helped us find seats inside. The pub was bustling with both locals and tourists, and there was a constant flow of delicious food coming out of the kitchen. Their hanging kebab dishes looked impressive enough to rival Oast House, along with a variety of seafood options. It’s a fantastic place, and it always seemed busy, whether it was day or night. Unfortunately, we didn't get the chance to eat there, but everyone agreed they would definitely return!
I opted for the chicken, which was perfectly cooked and moist—my companions agreed. One of my friend’s mothers ordered a seafood dish that looked fantastic and was generous in seafood, which was great to see. Everyone in our group enjoyed their meals, with portions that were so ample, it sometimes felt excessive. However, if you arrive hungry (like I did), it's perfect. As someone who is gluten-free, I appreciated that my dish was customized to accommodate my dietary needs, allowing me to enjoy a 'normal' meal. Despite the well-prepared food, I’m giving this place a three-star review. We dined early (around 5:30 PM) and waited close to an hour for our meals, which felt excessive since the restaurant wasn’t very busy when we got there. This was particularly frustrating since we only ordered main dishes and had to leave by 7 PM, making the timing feel rushed once our food finally arrived. Overall, if you're looking for a hearty meal and are dining with kids or those with big appetites, it's worth a visit.
The decor in this place is a little strange..... EVERYTHING is silver! A little odd in Bowness a quite olde worldy type of village. However, this doesnt affect the food and is definitely just my weird quirk! The bar has a very wide selection of drinks, ranging from all sorts of beers, wines and spirits; but is expensive to say the least. We went here as we could get a reservation where we wanted and this seemed an okay place, the menu is very gastro pub-esque, but in some respects in very confused. We ordered a venison burger with all the usual trimmings and char gilled chicken in a creamy bacon sauce. The venison was very nice if not a little overcooked and truth be told i would have preferred it if i had been asked how i wanted it served. The confusion comes into play when examining the chicken dish, the carbonara style sauce is without question an Italian derivation, but mixing Chinese veg into the mix was a huge curve ball! The onion rings were given a great billing by the waitress, however the reality was bland onion rings that very quickly went cold. An okay place to eat but nothing special.
The atmosphere is great BUT the food is...er...no comment..feel free to choose elsewhere...
