Generous portions, bright salsas, veggie options and breakfast burritos complement a laid-back garden patio with spread-out outdoor seating. Mariposa is simply outstanding. I reside in the Bay Area, where there are very few restaurants that can match the quality of Mariposa.
We visited Mariposa in Edison on Saturday afternoon and enjoyed a lovely meal outside in their garden seating area. We ordered Mol and Gorditas, along with a wet burrito plate, and enjoyed some tempache to drink. The food was delicious! The Gorditas had a perfect combination of crispiness on the outside and softness in the middle, and they were quite substantial. The fruit was fresh, and the tempache, made with pineapple juice, orange juice, mango, and cinnamon served over ice, was refreshing—though I believe traditional tempache is generally fermented; I'm not sure if this version was, but it was tasty nonetheless. If you appreciate a good mixed salsa, you'll find it here as well. My only critique would be that my hot food could have been hotter. The service was good, and the outdoor seating was perfect for a summer dining experience. Overall, the food was excellent, and we will definitely be coming back!
We've been coming here for years for the tacos, and they recently added some fantastic new items to the menu. The tamales are delicious, just like the gorditas, and when paired with fresh horchata, it's the perfect lunch. The new owners are wonderful, and their cooking skills are impressive.
We had the breakfast burritos. $7. We had the chorizo and the veggie. It was yummy. Not too salty. The salsas were the green, red and habanero. The salsas were yummy and spicy. These burritos are not very big but the tortillas are handmade and fresh. We took everything to go. I think it was worth it.
