I had an overall positive experience with this restaurant. I love sampling soul food establishments when visiting different cities. I chose Maxine’s because online in said there was an option to dine in. When I arrived, it was only a store front. I had to download an app in order to order and pay for my food. What User doesn't like about Maxine's On Saint James:
Here's what I tried:
- Fried chicken: good but bland, nothing to write home about.
- Garlic potatoes: dry and lacking flavor.
- Mac and cheese: probably the best dish they offer, but still dry. It was mainly just cheese with a hint of spice and the macaroni.
- Collard greens: salty, but otherwise decent.
- Gravy: also on the salty side.

Found me a spot to eat out at right in my neighborhood. Food is DELISH. Two thumbs up !! Get there and taste for yourSelves.
Food is excellent. Worth every penny. From the fish, macaroni cheese, rice to the wings, everything is superb. Highly recommended.
Ok flavorful southern loving!! Delivery was perfect timing and my food was nice and hit upon arrival! I will order again very soon!
I had a MAJOR taste for chicken waffles and honestly had never heard of Maxine's on Saint James until I logged into Foddler and low and behold! They had chicken waffles. So, I wasn't expecting much being that I've never eaten from here before BUT it was oh so worth every single penny! It was the ABSOLUTE BEST chicken waffles I've ever had LITERALLY! The Hen House has NOTHING on these! The waffle was buttery, and milky, the chicken was golden fried super super juicy! EVERYTHING was impeccable to taste. I LOVE this place and will ALWAYS order from here for some good ol' southern cooking!
