On a beautiful Thursday evening, my friend and I had high hopes for Le Cosmopolis. This well reviewed restaurant was perfect for us 1 vegetarian and 1 pescatarian who love good food! We ordered 2 starters and an entree, and all were incredibly bland and basically inedible. No salt, no flavor, no seasoning and the vegetables were overcooked into oblivion. I'm not sure why this place has good ratings, we've both visited many vegan/vegetarian places that season food. The pasta we got was so bland we had two bites and that was it. No sauce, just noodles, cubes of boiled veggies and carrots. The avocado starter did not resemble any avocado I've ever tasted. The one high point was the wine, great recommendation! Either way, huge disappointment for our first night in Bordeaux.
Made a reservation for dinner during our visit to Bordeaux as we were looking for vegetarian/vegan options. They offer options for both, as well as a third omnivore option. Food was very good. I went omnivore with the smoked/shaved duck carpagio tapas and the tuna (over some type of grains with beets and potatoes) for the main. Both were excellent. My wife had the vegan option which was a pasta dish. Also very good. Very casual decor inside, and very hard to find (especially at night) as it is way back in a darkly lit residential area and the sign for the restaurant does not stand out.
My husband and I went here (with our 5 month old baby) after reading some of the reviews online and we were not disappointed. The food is excellent and the service was outstanding, very welcoming. Would definitely recommend this restaurant and would visit again!
This restaurant serves excellent Asian-inspired vegetarian/vegan food, while also providing quality options for non-vegetarians, and a great wine list (nearly all on the list being organic). The quality is high across the board, so that a non-vegetarian may well be tempted by the vegetarian/vegan options (and, if not, they will still enjoy a great meal). A proper restaurant setting where vegetarian/vegan food is not just an afterthought is a rare experience in Bordeaux. The interior is inviting and a pleasant space to spend time in. The service was attentive and engaging. The menu changes regularly and we look forward to returning to try some different dishes.
We went to this restaurant following a friend's recommendation. We called to book a table at 7:30pm, but when we got there the restaurant was closed. About 15 minutes later, a woman, the owner, opened the door for us. She gave us the menu: there was one appetiser, two entres, three mains and four desserts. The wine menu, on the contrary, was rather long. The owner kindly explained what the menu options where, since it was written in French. She made it sound tasty as hell. We ordered miso soup, the fish and the risotto. The miso soup was pretty good, but it wasn't mind-blowing. The fish was disastrous: boiled tasteless white fish on a bed of cereal rice. Absolutely bland and unappealing to the sight and tongue. The risotto wasn't bad, but again, not the best ever. The desserts were just appauling: we had brownie and pear tatin, and they were both obviously not home-made, more like bought and then defrosted. The service consisted of the owner and her barely adult daughter. With only two people for the whole restaurant, we spent there about two hours, mostly waiting. We wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for out-of-the-ordinary cuisine. Maybe we weren't lucky with the menu, but we certainly will not be back.
