Every dish at Le Comptoir Fromager combines an innov... read more We were delighted to spend a beautiful evening at this unique restaurant in the heart of downtown Bordeaux. Every dish at Le Comptoir Fromager combines an innovative mix of cheese and other ingredients for flavorful cuisine that's also presented artfully on your plate. The owner was heavily involved in every aspect of the service and was a friendly guy who we had a nice chat with when we arrived. He and his staff spoke good English as well. We sat outside and got some excellent people watching to go with our fantastic meal. I started with a really good appetizer that mixed watermelon, pomegranate, and seeds with a tasty cheese. My main course was a beautiful combo of another cheese with beet hummus, salmon, and red onions that all blended together on the plate like a camouflaged masterpiece. The tastes were phenomenal. My wife got the gooey camembert cheese wheel as her main course and loved it. We both had fruity desserts: one with a peach base, one with figs I believe that were very tart. This was a meal unlike anything we've ever tried. A fantastic experience that we'd recommend to anyone!

After reading the reviews here, we were excited to go and see what the hype is about, but unfortunately for us it didn’t really live up to it. To be fair, the food is delicious and the ambiance is great, but we felt like the prices are a bit much considering other places in town. We weren’t full after our meals (kind of expected from a french restaurant i guess) but we were also charged an extra dessert that we did not even see or hear about. Unfortunately, we only realised after paying, but an extra 9 euros is not nice for nothing.
