Au Petrin Moissagais - Bordeaux

My husband and I learned that this bakery was established in 1765 and still uses the original oven and some of the original bread recipes. We were excited to try the bread. The bakery was very nice inside with an old-fashioned display of multiple kinds of bread. You could see the old oven in the back. We bought 2 small bread rolls. They were not crispy enough and very dense. They tasted like something people ate in the old days. May be recipes from 1765 is not such a good thing

This place has a ton of character. The breads are absolutely scrumptious. We had breakfast 2 days in a row here which we rarely eat in the same place twice. It was that good and entertaining! Everyone was so attentive to us and seriously some wonderful breads. Highly recommended!

They're still making bread and baking it in a wod oven built in 1765! And the bread and pastries are delicious!

This bakery was my highlight in Bordeaux. It was part of our Bakery tour with a wonderful guide, Nikesh. The Bakery specializes in a thick crusted loaf of bread, originally baked for sailors, as the wood baking creates a moist texture with a marvelous crust. Without a doubt, that bread (toasted) was the best I have ever tasted. When I told my husband (a classically trained French chef) about the bakery, the oven (operating 24/7 since WW2) and the bead he insisted that I bring home a loaf to San Francisco and I will! It was that good.

Best breakfast in Bordeaux. Delicious bread and croissant. I think we were the only tourists there, it’s a place locals come and grab their bread for the day. The workers are adorable and welcomed us to eat in their lovely family-style table next to the 250 year-old oven. Such an amazing experience. You could see the bread coming out of the oven and smell it. We also took a salmon panini (to die for! and a quiche to go which was great for lunch at the lake. Really, visit the place if you are in town.
