Double Tap offers a cozy, authentic pub atmosphere perfect for watching sports, with a strong focus on local brews and a solid beer selection, including Guinness on tap. Their burgers are widely praised for quality and flavor, paired well with classic bar fare. While some patrons appreciate the friendly, knowledgeable bartenders and lively vibe, service quality is inconsistent, with reports of slow or inattentive staff impacting the overall experience. The venue’s charm is slightly marred by occasional service lapses and worn furnishings, suggesting room for improvement to fully match its culinary and drink offerings.

A fantastic local gem located in a beautiful building. The service is outstanding and the food is excellent—definitely deserving of an A+!

As a veteran and former police officer, I decided to visit this veteran-owned establishment to watch some preseason football on Friday, August 9, 2024. My girlfriend and I walked in, but we were completely ignored by the staff, as the bartender seemed far too preoccupied chatting with her friends. Unfortunately, we ended up leaving without even being acknowledged.

This most recent visit was my fourth or fifth time there, and it happened to be on Father's Day. My dad loves their elk burgers even more than I do, so we chose this restaurant for our Father's Day lunch, even though we drive 45 minutes each way to get here. We ordered drinks right away and placed our orders shortly afterward, choosing two appetizers and three burgers with fries. We requested for the appetizers to be served before the burgers, and the waitress acknowledged our request. However, about 30 minutes into the wait, my wife checked in with the waitress about our food, only to have her ask if we had ordered yet. After another 45 minutes, my burger finally arrived, but there were still no appetizers in sight. The waitress explained that they only had one cook, which seemed to explain the delay. However, there were fewer than ten people in the restaurant when we placed our order. We never received any updates about the delay or an apology, and the waitress became awkward and standoffish after we inquired about the situation. While I was waiting to ask for a to-go box for my dad and the check, she, along with what I assumed was the manager, walked by several times without acknowledging us. To top it off, in the hour and a half we were there, we never received the water we requested. I genuinely want to continue supporting this restaurant, but there needs to be improvement with the staff—and I’m not just referring to the lack of staff. The quality of the food and the atmosphere was unfortunately overshadowed by poor service and a lack of warmth.

I’ve been here many times over the years and it runs the gamut from “not great” to “just fine.” The people working usually seem nice enough but don’t really care about being on top of service. That’s generally okay with me. It’s an acceptable place to watch a game and sometimes get your drink refilled, if you’re lucky. I’ve only eaten at Double Tap twice. The first time, about a year ago, it was just a standard pub burger. Nothing bad at all, but nothing exciting. That’s fine. Tonight I got the breakfast burger and I knew it would be a bit messy because of the egg. But when I picked it up, both the top and bottom buns were so slimy (before I even broke the yoke) that I pretty much lost my appetite. I was starving so I took a couple of bites anyway. And somehow they managed to serve me a mostly raw smash burger. Some people might like that but I didn’t care for it. I’ll come back here for a drink again, probably, but the food just isn’t for me. Definitely not the worst bar in Boise, but they could do a bit better. Price per person: $20–30 Food: 2 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 4
