Soma Coffee House - Bloomington

I absolutely adore this coffee shop! I've been a regular for over a year now, and I would choose it over Starbucks any day. The prices are about the same, but I always prefer supporting local businesses over global chains. They offer a fantastic selection of house drinks as well. I’ve sampled many of their lattes; the Peanut Butter Cup O' Joe is delightful, especially when served hot. Their Razz-Ma-Tazz latte, which combines raspberry and dark chocolate, is also excellent, but I prefer it iced. My all-time favorite is the Lewinsky, featuring coconut, caramel, and vanilla—it's delicious both hot and cold. It keeps me warm on snowy days and is wonderfully refreshing during hot weather. Before the pandemic, the atmosphere was incredibly cozy and inviting, making it a perfect place to catch up with friends or get some work done. Now, they’ve removed all the indoor tables to promote social distancing, and all staff members wear masks at all times. They also have outdoor heaters set up for gatherings, so you can still meet with friends comfortably. Overall, I love visiting this coffee shop anytime and make sure to bring my friends and family whenever they're in town!

Overall, this coffee shop is excellent with some unique combinations. The staff is usually friendly, though some of them can be a bit curt or rude at times, but that's not the case all the time! I highly recommend their smoothies, especially the Raz-ma-Taz and the Swamp Thing. The Swamp Thing is an unusual mix, but it's definitely worth trying if you're looking to try something new!

They have implemented good health safety measures by removing all the indoor tables and seating, and they have hand sanitizer available at the front door. There are outdoor tables available, complete with signs indicating whether they’ve been sanitized between customers, which I really appreciated. They do ask that customers wear masks indoors, but they didn't turn away anyone who wasn't wearing one. I'm really sad that I live so far away from this place, but I will definitely make an effort to stop by whenever I'm in the area!

I appreciate a coffee house that gets creative with its menu, and Soma has a great list of specialty drinks to compliment the standard coffee options. Bonus: Lots of their coffees are fair trade and juices are all organic. It looks like customers are welcome to get cozy and hang out, but the interior is very dark. So if that’s not your thing, there’s plenty of outdoor seating with cafe tables and picnic benches.

Interesting coffeehouse in Bloomington. First time there but the coffee was great! Cashier recommended a pretty great drink too!
