What The Fishin Link dislikes about Back 40:
The absolute worst fish I've ever had. 20 dollar walleye dinner was terrible. Over cooked, full of bones and tasted like northern slime. I got less than 1/2 way through couldn't eat anymore Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $10–20 Food: 1 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 3 View all feedback.

I decided to give this restaurant a try and walked in, only to hear another table advise against it. They mentioned they had been waiting over an hour for their food, even though they ordered before a larger group that arrived after them and received their meals first. We chose to simply have a drink at the bar and then go somewhere else for dinner. Meal type: Dinner Service: 1 Atmosphere: 3
The food was excellent, but we had to wait over an hour for our meals and pretzels. I also had to go to the bar to get refills on soda. **Service:** Dine-in **Meal Type:** Dinner **Price per person:** $10–20 **Food Rating:** 5 **Service Rating:** 1 **Atmosphere Rating:** 3

Wonderful restaurant! The food is delicious, and the service is excellent. The staff is very friendly.
The food and drinks were amazing! It was definitely worth the trip from Eau Claire.
Food was excellent, drinks? I don't drink alcohol, but everyone else I was with was happier than a pig in Slop. Bartender/Waiter was super nice. Owners are also very nice.

Fantastic service and a roomy bar and seating area make this place a great spot. There's even a game room and an outdoor bar to enjoy. Their beer selection is solid, featuring some Wisconsin favorites like New Glarus and Leinie's, along with a variety of domestic options in bottles and cans. We tried the cheese curds and the BBQ bacon chicken sandwich. While the cheese curds were large, they were just average. However, the chicken sandwich exceeded my expectations, and I would definitely order it again. Overall, it's a charming little venue near the lakes!
The service was quite slow, likely due to being understaffed. There was only one waitress managing multiple tables, including groups of four and one group of six. While the appetizers were tasty once they finally arrived, we had to request napkins and silverware, and there were no plates for the appetizers. My son even had to go to the bar to get a second drink because no one came to check on us. The tables had a somewhat outdated café style, and the interior sported rustic barn decor with wooden rafters and stone and wood pillars. On a positive note, there was ample parking available.
We all ordered the queen cut of Prime Rib, which was approximately one centimeter thick and didn't come with au jus. The salad bar had an additional charge of $4, so we decided to go for side salads instead, especially since the queen cut was already priced at $22. I really wish I had taken a picture of our steaks!
It's been years since we last dined here, and I know there's a new owner now. We attended the Easter buffet, and based on this experience, we will definitely return! The food was outstanding. We can't wait to come back and explore more items from the menu.

This restaurant is amazing! The food is superb, and the service is exceptional. The staff is very welcoming and friendly.
This is a clean and pleasant restaurant with a very friendly staff. I only had drinks during my visit, but I'm eagerly looking forward to returning to sample the food, which looked excellent. The location is convenient, with plenty of good parking available.
I ordered the ribeye, and it was seasoned and cooked to perfection. They serve walleye on Saturday nights, which I’m looking forward to trying. I will definitely be returning. The bartenders and the cook were friendly and welcoming.
The service was very friendly and accommodating. However, I found the food to be overpriced; the full rack of ribs contained only seven bones. On a positive note, the walleye was quite tasty, although it was a bit greasy.
