The Sullivan House - BLOCK ISLAND

My wife and I were there on our Honeymoon. The team at the Sullivan House was fantastic. The breakfast they provide is great and the hospitality that is provided while you enjoy your breakfast is on point. The views from sunrise and sunset are amazing andthe location is peaceful enough to simply enjoy your time. The house is historic so if you can adapt you will have no problemstaying there. Thank you team Sullivan house for our going away gift to congratulate us on the wedding. We will for sure beback.

Firstly, this review is long overdue as we stayed in July. The location of The Sullivan House is first rate. Perched hilltop with amazing views of Salt pond on one side and the beach to the other, it provided a 6 minute moped ride into town, whileoffering the peace and quiet of a retreat location after time in town with all the ferry partiers (despite Covid-19). Sitting onthe back porch for morning coffee and afternoon beverages could not be more perfect. I can imagine why this would be such astunning wedding venue when all restrictions are off. At a time when customer service seems to be of the past, The hosts,Rosalie and Sean (apologies if names are misspelled or misunderstood) were unbelievably amazing and went beyond and out of theirway to make us comfortable on what was a very hot week.She even was extremely gracious when we accidentally borrowed a guest 'sbike and she quickly jumped into action to make sure transportation was all arranged and a swap could be made in time! Weenjoyed talking with them so much and can see why this place lends itself to returning year after year. The breakfast was notbuffet, which we preferred with especially with the personalized touches and attentiveness, and was unbelievably delicious.First day was omelette to our liking, with fruit, yogurt, granola, danish, sausages, potatoes... was there anything missing? Thesecond day was a wonderful homemade quiche. Since my husband prefers eating gluten free, Rosalie was happy to accommodate withan omelette again. The rooms are old-style victorian Queen Anne as is the style with most places on the island, but verycomfortable. It 's customer service like this that make a place. Thank you for a lovely stay and we look forward to being backagain.

The location is simply perfect. Situated on a hill that overlooks the marina, with breathtaking sunsets and expansive lawns, the setting is both peaceful and historic. Every morning, I enjoyed a generous and delightful breakfast. The staff were warm and helpful, creating a cozy and accommodating atmosphere. In addition to being on a beautiful property, it's conveniently located directly across from the main public beach, which has clean facilities and surprisingly good food. The beach itself is pristine, and the water is ideal, plus having a lifeguard on duty for the kids is a nice bonus. While the place has its charm, the room is bright and comfortable but a bit small, and the bathroom is quite tiny and could use some updates—that's the only reason I’m giving it 4 instead of 5 stars. Overall, it's a fantastic place to stay, and I would return in a heartbeat!

I had a wonderful stay with my wife. The location is very quiet and secluded. Room No. 2 is quite small, but it was very clean and more than adequate for one night. The breakfast was fantastic. We really enjoyed the views from the house, which were perfect for watching sunsets.

However, we did face some issues during our stay. The room was comically small—barely larger than the bed itself, and one wall was angled, making it difficult to stand in more than half the space. I'm only 5'7", and I couldn't sit up on the left side of the bed without hitting my head. The bathroom was cramped, consisting of just a toilet and a tiny shower, with the sink located on the opposite side of the room. There were no towel bars or hooks in either the room or the bathroom, and there was no closet or anywhere to hang clothes. The window air conditioner struggled to cool the room effectively, positioned in a corner where it mostly blew air against a wall. Having traveled extensively around the world and stayed in numerous budget motels and hostels, I can confidently say this was one of the "coziest" yet most uncomfortable rooms I've ever experienced. We paid $350 per night for this room, including taxes and fees, which honestly felt more like the price of a closet. While it's common knowledge that Block Island is pricey during the summer, this rate seemed outrageous for the space we were given. Remarkably, it's only about $100-150 less than much nicer rooms in the hotel. Although the hotel’s website features photos of the room, they seem intentionally angled to avoid showing the awkward wall. I've attached some more realistic pictures of our accommodations. The hotel does offer bicycles and kayaks for rent, but the bicycles appeared poorly maintained and cost $35 for 6-8 hours. We chose to rent from a place in town instead, where it was $20-25 for a full 24 hours. The single kayaks were priced at $35 for two hours, which is comparable to other kayak rental companies in town.
