This is a cool gastro pub/local. Good selection of beers and local wines. The food, however (at least pizza and burger) were average. The staff is nice. The vibe is cozy. A good place to visit in the evening! View all feedback.
What Annette Williams doesn't like about The Speight's Ale House:
Bar staff was lovely but food was average. Out of 4 meals only 1 was delicious. Burger buns were dry. No mention of peri peri sauce in burger so one person didn’t enjoy their burger as it was too hot to eat. Ribs were dry and lacking sauce. Completely different to the one in Christchurch Price per person: NZ$40–50 View all feedback.

There 's a few scones on the counter during the day and a brunch menu but I plan to come for dinner one night soon I want to try the 'Flintstone ', a 400g ribeye with onion rings, green peppercorn sauce and chunky fries. Or maybe the Pelorus twice cooked Pork Belly with Speight 's Apple Cider, tough choice. There 's even a courtesy ride home on busy nights, that 's Southern hospitality!
read more3 1/2 stars. An up market pub popular with Marlborough locals for it's reliably good food and attractive, contemporary interior style. The menu is full of solid comfort food selections, including fish and chips, burgers, pizzas, and salads with just enough unique items such as the mac and cheese to keep it interesting for a second visit. While not haute cuisine, the food is well prepared and presented. Service is prompt but rather impersonal. One gets the impression that the staff do their duty but no more. The beers are predictably limited to the sponsoring brewery selection which is adequate but not exactly a beer connoisseurs destination. Same for the wine list. All in all, a pleasant spot good for an easy pub lunch or dinner along the highway but not really a destination eatery in and of itself.
read moreDisappointing meal the burger was weird not freshly cooked and the egg, meat seemed precooked then heated up. Beets on a burger does not work. Ate one bite and left the rest hate to waste food but not edible. Beer and fries ok.
