Description

At Greens Cafe, opinions vary significantly among patrons. Some express disappointment over slow service and unclean practices, particularly regarding food handling. Others recount unfriendly staff interactions and rigid ordering policies, which detracted from their experience. Conversely, a number of guests praise the establishment for its cozy decor, friendly staff, and flavorful, well-prepared dishes. While some fondly recall past visits and satisfactory meals, others suggest a decline in quality and service. Overall, while Greens Cafe has its admirers, the mixed reviews highlight inconsistencies that may deter potential diners from returning.

I visited this restaurant on Monday morning for a fried breakfast. My companion and I were both feeling a bit delicate after attending a wedding on Sunday. While this place may not have a Michelin star, the food was straightforward and cooked fresh. We enjoyed our tea served in a traditional China teapot with matching cups and saucers, although the cups were slightly stained, possibly past their sell-by date. The hostess was very warm and friendly. I would gladly return to Greens to nurse my next hangover.

Popped in for a take away bacon barmcake, had to wait 25 minutes even though it wasn't very busy (4-5 other people in). First off the lady took the money up front which was cash only, then went to the warming cupboard, picked up bacon with her hands and arranged it on a plate for a sitting customer. Then needed to move her car, asked someone they knew sat down to watch things for 5 minutes. Came back, went straight into making scrambled egg, again no cleaning hands. Someone came up, paid for their meal, cash taken, no cleaning etc While I don't mind waiting if it's busy, it wasn't until I stood up and about to ask for my money back that she started making the bacon barm, which was just bacon picked out the warmer and placed on a slightly stale roll, 2 slaps of margarine and a squirt of tomato sauce. Took 20 seconds. Sadly this isn't an isolated incident and didn't get an apology or even an estimated time when I handed the cash over. Won't be returning again and recommend one of the many rivals on the road instead.

Today, I went to the restaurant to get coffee for myself and my wife, who was on her way. One young male staff member asked me if I had ordered two coffees. I confirmed that I had, and he rudely questioned why there was only me present. I explained that my partner was on her way, but he walked away without apology. This kind of behavior is unacceptable regardless of the number of coffees I order. Clearly, some training is needed here. I won't be visiting this restaurant again.

I would recommend steering clear of this cafe. We waited almost half an hour for two toasted teacakes, and when they finally arrived, they were burnt and spread with margarine instead of butter. When I questioned the staff about how much longer it would take, they brought out the burnt teacakes and insisted it was butter. My mother-in-law took hers home for the birds, and we waited another ten minutes for an apology and a refund, but neither was provided. I will not be returning to this cafe again, and the coffee was also not up to par.
