CHEERS to the Peaky Blinders! A new bar has opened its doors in Dale End, right in the heart of Birmingham city centre, named after the hit Brummie gangster show, The Peaky Blinders. This fresh addition to the local nightlife scene has been making waves since its launch just two weeks ago, quickly becoming a favourite spot for revellers and already racking up over 3,000 likes on Facebook. What makes The Peaky Blinders bar stand out is its authentic homage to the iconic TV series. All the bar staff proudly sport the distinctive flat caps made famous by Tommy Shelby and his gang, and many customers join in the fun by donning the hats themselves. It’s a unique atmosphere that draws people in, fans and newcomers alike. One of the star attractions on the drinks menu is the £2.70 Peaky Blinder cocktail, a delicious blend of whisky and blackcurrant inspired by the drinking habits of the 1920s, the era in which the show is set. The blackcurrant energy drink used in the cocktail is a family endeavour, created by landlord Thomas O’Rourke, his mum Dee, and friend Junior Smith under JTD Drinks Distribution Ltd. The eye-catching packaging features artwork by Birmingham graffiti artist Temper. Thomas, who also runs O’Rourke’s bar in Digbeth, is eager to expand the bar’s Peaky Blinders connection further. Discussions are underway to offer wines produced by Sam Neill—the Belfast detective Chief Inspector Campbell from the show—as well as Peaky Blinder ale brewed by Sadler’s Ales in Stourbridge. There’s even talk of hosting themed evenings in the downstairs section of the venue, formerly known as The Hole in the Wall, where guests can step back in time with 1920s-inspired food, drink, and music. The community spirit is a big part of the bar’s charm too. Thomas has created a Peaky Blinders Hall of Fame inside the venue, showcasing photos of customers rocking their caps. A camera is set up for patrons to snap themselves, inviting everyone to join in the fun and become part of the story. Running the bar as a family business, Thomas and his mum Dee have been genuinely surprised by the venue’s success. Dee shares, “We didn’t expect it to take off so well. It’s been so popular.” They’ve even been giving away samples of their energy drink, which is already available in several local supermarkets including Costcutter and Select and Save. Long-time local Dave Lee, who’s been coming to the venue for over 40 years, has praised this latest chapter in its history. From its days as The Hole in the Wall and the Confession Box to Sara Moon, The Peaky Blinders bar is now the place to be for fans of the show and anyone looking to enjoy a great night out with a true Birmingham twist.
